This was a lot of fun to watch.
I am impressed they would subject their daily drivers to that abuse. I trucked for ten years and it would have been a career ender to airmail a rod like the Detroit does.
I was surprised that so many were Series 60. And why do they overfuel to such a high degree. Are they hedging against the possibility of running too lean? Is that even possible with a diesel? I thought that less fuel meant less power but that you couldn't really lean one out. But too much doesn't make any more power. It just makes you look stupid. I could understand some smoke while the turbos are trying to catch up but this is waaay more than that.

There is a very limited window to inject fuel. Plus even if you don't ignite all the fuel in the cylinder, it's still burning in the exhaust for even more thermal mass to spool the turbo.

And, at 2200 rpm with a 6 inch stroke, there is a whole lot of time to burn fuel.
Wonder what kind of rpms those tires or the driveshaft can handle? Can't imagine they're real happy at 110+ mph
