My google-fu must be getting weak because I cant seem to find much out there on the interwebs. Who has made a DIY pit wagon/war wagon/pit cart?
It seems like it would be pretty easy to make a wood or metal frame with casters and bolt a toolbox and shelves or cabinets to it. I have an old Craftsman roller and a file cabinet for bulk storage that I think would work. Right now we use a Rubbermaid industrial cart with a 3 drawer box sitting on it. I would like to make something with a little more storage that I can roll on and off the trailer at crap can races.
Im looking for ideas more grassroots than this
But with more storage than this.
What has the hive built?

Nobody, huh? Looks like I need to make sure I do a build thread when I put one together. I hope to get something duct taped up before the Chump race at Watkins Glen.
I made a nice one but I have no photos. I will try to take some tonite. I used a craftsman toolbox and a work box from a pickup truck.
There was a pretty good pit cart build thread over on the Garage Journal board a year or two ago: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=278059
Finally got around to taking a couple pics of my pit cart arrangement so here they are. I used an old craftsman tool box and a truck work box on top. Its tall and skinny instead of the usual short and fat which allowed me to add a couple feet to my trailer and store it in front of the car. The shelf above the generator is for a deep cycle battery charger and compressor but I haven't got that far yet.

What a coincidence! Yesterday I went to Harbor Frieght and bought 4 casters like these.
My plan is to build a pit cart using only stuff thats already in the garage (minus the casters of course). I have some 2x10s Im going to use 3 wide and bolt a couple old toolboxes to it.
My lemons team uses one of the red harbor freight tool carts. It has 4-5 drawers, a shelf on the bottom, and the top lid opens up. We have enough room for all of our hand tools.
If you need more space, I've seen something like the link below a few times... A guy took the bigger HF toolchest and put it on big rubber wheels.

Looking good!
Opinion: either weld two castors, or return them for fixed ones. When all four wheels can steer, stuff is hard to wrangle.
The GRM staff made one out of an old gas grill a few years ago. I think it was Tim, who grabbed it from his neighbor's curb.
Absolute brilliance.

I bought 2 fixed, 2 swivel. I just realized I wasnt clear in the post. The side opposite the toolbox has the fixed ones.
4 swivel casters would make it easy to do some sweet drifting.

I can see that in the pic now. Carry on. Some of the maintenance guys in the factories make neat tow around work tables with 1/2" steel tops, vices, tool boxes, etc. All very cool.

I forgot about that one! I'll have to look it up again...
