New here. I've got a 24 Hours of LeMons car that we've raced at Buttonwillow for 3 years and are getting ready for the Willow Springs event in March.  Signed up here to research some cheap speed!

Good afternoon, Joe here from Medford, NJ. Just joined for a few reasons. Lemons/Champ advice, normal car talk, and hoping to find some help with a couple projects. Looking forward to meeting new faces, and learning a bunch.

Hello, I'm Chris from Gilroy, CA. I've driven trucks/SUVs/minivans for most of my life. I finally decided that it was time to sell our Sienna and Highlander, bought the wife a new Explorer and bought myself a 2011 GTI with 20k miles on it. I attended a couple autoX and one track day at Laguna Seca last year. I wound up going down the stage 1 tune/suspension upgrade rabbit hole. I found this forum while researching track/autoX tires.

My other hobbies are machining (small CNC mill, manual lathe), high power rocketry (I've flown up to M power), and photography.

If you ever need a custom bracket, spacer or other widget made let me know.

OK, I am definitely not a real newby, but have been very inactive for too long.  Serious health problems have slowed me down a lot, but got some seriously good news from my cancer doc today.  I am in full remission from leukemia!!  So, happiness has ensued.  One year of chemo does a number on you, but it worked.  I have too many doctors to go see, but they all are very pleasant and professional.  Anyway, I will be here, and hopefully will be able to be helpful again.  Old handle was cwh, my initials.  Do I still get to be a Dork??

Hi Guys,

Steve is my real name.

Design Engineer in motorsport brake system development. Materials science, thermodynamics, solid state chemistry, dyno testing, tribology, hydraulic systems and all that stuff we like to talk about over a beer at night. Love my motorsport and tinkering with physics on four wheels. Prefer to get dirty in pit lane than drive.

I'm here to learn and hopefully share some knowledge and ideas. Maybe debunk some BS marketing about brakes too, ;-)

Please don't ask who I work for. Im not here to sell anything. This is my hobby.

I'm an Aussie but work in the USA, west and east coast. Sorry there may be additional A, E, I, O, U's in my spelling. 8-)

Cheers

P.S Like to fish too if any one has some advice for Pac NW.

Hi all,

I build cool Motorsport stuff. I like to get community engagement in the things I build and this forum is one way to do that.

Shortly I'll be posting a new project I've started. And can't wait to hear what you guys have to say about it.

My work is all open source, so anything I build is available for download. It's just one way for me to help pay the bills and also better the community.

See you on the threads. Best Matt

Rock here. Originally from Greenland. Greenland, Arkansas that is. I'm into first generation Dodge Avengers, 1995 - 2000. I have two 98 Avengers now, one for the street and one for the track. Have been involved in dirt track racing almost all my life but always wanted to run on road courses. Started doing that last March at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Oklahoma and ran a ChampCar race at Watkins Glen last May.

Mark here, I've been enjoying the forum as a lurker for quite a while.  What a great group you have here.

The fun car is a 2011 Mustang GT California Special in race red, 6 speed stick basically stock except for Roush axle back mufflers.  (It's never to late to have a happy childhood, lol)     We've had the car since February of  2016 and enjoy it for day and weekend trips.

Hey y’all I’m Jerry and I’ve also been a lurker for some time (under a different username) and really enjoy absorbing the knowledge here. I figure it’s time to step forward and say hi, and start contributing to the party.

Ive always been a classic car nut but pretty much enjoy driving anything fast (or at least as fast as it’ll go) and have really been looking to try my hand at autocross lately. I’ve never had a turn around the cones but at the moment I’m working on getting my old wagon up to decent enough shape to make a few runs without falling apart.

That’s been taking some time (as all projects do) but between now and then I’ll keep dropping in on posts to watch and learn, and also try to keep my berkleying foot out of my mouth.  No promises though.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fun fact, there are now two 67 Falcon wagons on this forum...

My First Time on the Grassroots Motorsports Forum.  Have been an avid Reader of GRM for a couple of years by SnailMail subscription (the only way to go!). I have been drunning AutoCross since 1967 (EMPI-modified VW 1300). Currently am a licensed SCCA Instructor (Advanced) since 2009. Drive a lightly modified 2002 WRX Wagon [313WHP, Brembos (13-inch) on  all 4 corners, Quaiffe LSD F+R, Borla Exhaust). I will try to post a photo here of this car exiting Turn 12 at Road America where I am pulling 123-125MPH entering Turns 1, 5 and 12.

Sven here, 29 years old and live in the Seattle area. I like cars, obviously. I work in marine hydraulics, and am a competent all around mechanic. I like doing my own work, but I don't have much time or room to do anything that involves a significant amount of fabrication.

Driving experience includes 5 years of fairly serious autocross (just about every weekend, put a lot of effort into it, but did not do anything national level), and now last year I've switched to rallycross. I have done a few track days in the winter when autocross/rallycross shuts down, but without the competitive aspects and no real goals I find it gets somewhat dull to drive around the same track all day. I think if it was competitive it would be different. I'm probably in the minority here, but track days feel more like playing chess whereas autocross is very fast paced and more "in your face," for lack of a better term. My switch from autocross to rallycross was primarily because I had kind of reached a point of diminishing returns in autocross. I was very close to being able to compete with the national level guys, but I was getting kind of bored and decided I would rather try something new than spend 5 more years chasing that last second. Switching to rallycross I found lots more improvements; I find the crowd a lot better, more seat time, more fun, and events actually start on time and people seem like they want to be there. The group I run with is NWRA. They're not affiliated with SCCA but run similar classing, and while the courses are still out lined with cones, they seem to be comfortable with slightly more risk/fun than your typical SCCA event.

Car wise - I discovered autocross when I owned a GM era Saab 9-3, and shortly after switched to an NC Miata. After a few years of getting tired of not really fitting in the Miata (I'm 6'4" 250lbs), I switched to an FRS. After a few years of that, I picked up an old Saab 900 to start rallycross with. I loved the 900, but they're starting to get awfully popular with the restoration crowd so parts were $$$ and difficult to find. This not being optimal for a rallycross car, I switched to an 09 Honda Fit. Seriously underrated car in my opinion.

That's where I'm at now. Now I'm here to ask stupid questions :)

Hey, just joined and started a subscription.  I'd previously had one from a SCCA track night and generally when researching any maintenance or car questions, this forum always comes up in the results and has great information. During these times I wanted to show my support for GRM as the world and the internet are a much better place with it.

I've been doing autocross off and on in NC for years, never fast, but always had fun. A few years ago I started doing HPDEs and have tried to do a few a year and they're just a blast. I generally do events with either PCA or THSCC and at CMP or VIR. Looking forward to traveling to some other tracks once events are being held again!

As for cars, I currently run a 987.2 and also have a Chevy SS, Bolt EV, and 65' Corvair (which it may have been a bit cold to drive today, brrrrr).
