Snow still on the ground, though the rain is helping to get rid of it. End of march, maybe, after ALL chances of picking up road salt is gone. BUT did see a very early MG Midget out and about last Sunday! For a drive around the block.....

Really nice DSR, always wanted one of those. Fast enough to scare yourself, but not too fast to permanently scare yourself out of the cockpit forever.

It's.... very surprisingly affordable thus far. I'm keeping a log of all the money sunk into this thing. I'm very confident that it'll stay under $5k including purchase price of car when all is said and done. It helps that consumables for this car are dirt cheap. I'm looking at $450 or less to replace the ENTIRE brake system, master cylinder to pads. If someone stayed away from the "overkill" stuff, i'm sure you could recreate it for ~$3500. You don't really NEED tubular rodend control arms, but dammit, they're COOL!

I am getting everthing lined up to swap the engine and transmission in the Miata. I am changing the timing belt, putting new gaskets,etc. on the new (75,000 mile) engine. I am also going to do some general cleaning/repair while the drivetrain is out.

And I still need to get a couple small pieces of trim for the M3 and do a fluid change on it and have the front tires flipped. Then it's ready for NASA HPDEs.

I was going to Instruct at the PDX but I get back home for spring break the day before so I'd be useless in the passenger seat. If you need help at the school let me know, I'll be leaving Sunday for my flight home but I will be at the track Fri-Sat. I've crewed for my dad in his Reynard FC and my FV so I have lots of experience in the finite cars. Make sure you do have a crew with you or else you won't have enough time to either attend class or attend to your car.

Someone on the local civic si site attends a few of those events, posted a few vids; looks like a great little track! Unfortunately I'm @ the east portion of Long Island...

I've had a rough winter. I'm chomping at the bit to go autocrossing. My turbo FC isn't anywhere near ready yet. I need to install the new Koyorad radiator, FD alternator, and Taurus electric fan just to keep it from going Chernobyl on me, then I need to rewire the TPS so that the car doesn't need to be revved to 3000rpm to keep it from stalling. I also need to secure the battery and get an alignment. Right now, it's entombed in 2ft of ice and 3ft of snow along with my non-turbo FC which I've been trying to sell for a few months now. I've got a potential buyer lined up but I'm only halfway done digging it out. I'm so tired of shoveling... @_@

At least my MS3 is fine. It need some bodywork after a run in with a rock but is otherwise running perfect. I just picked up a set of sexy dark blue OZ Ultraleggera wheels for it that need new tires.

right now i am trying to find someone to help get the car down with some welding and other things to try to get it ready for the season...but i think its just going to end up for sale in the next month along with my classic show car again since the gas prices are going though the roof this year its looks like i wont bve doing much of anything this year but takeing a few pics of some car shows....no racing for the past few years due to lack of cash..sigh.... now i have to drop a grand to get the daily driver fixed for ags tank and other things that as long as its apart fix them now like exhust and sturts....sigh....

Will you be racing it this season or does it need a lot of sorting? I keep bouncing back and forth between the tin tops and the idea of just getting over it and buying a dedicated road racing car. What is your story? I am sitting on a precarious fence....

You might find this funny. My last Mx3 KLZE had quite a bit of work done to it, and I race a full season, winning what my local SCCA chapter calls a Rose Cup. Not like the Rose Cups that people win at the Portland Historics or something, but still it's a little plastic cup that says "you're pretty cool". So I found some pictures of this Mx3 that I hadn't seen in like 5 years, so I posted them with that little story on another forum that I'm on. I got a E36 M3storm of people telling me that it's impossible, Mx3s can't handle well enough to do anything, yada yada.

Driving season? Its -35*C here and snowing at the moment. We still have another two months until we can think about busting out the shiny toys.

Of course, that is if you have shiny toys. I just sold the Swift GT for $2k this evening It may lead to me owning a shiny toy that gets raced in any weather though...

Lets see: 1, E30 M3 Rewire S52. TMS J stock springs. TMS revalved Bilsteins. Hawk Racing pads. Brake rotors X4. Oil Cooler. Passenger side 5 pt harness. Mount R comps on Team Dynamics wheels.

2, E30 325iS (Just bought for road only) Remove H&R race springs. Add E30 M3 springs. Driver seat. Front wind shield. Battery. Rust Right rear Quarter and driver door. Oil Pan gasket. Replace fuse/relay box.

3, Birkin 7 Rebuild zetec. Rear Brake pads. R comps.

4,E36 M3. Clutch replacement. Odometer bulb.

Nope. I'm not ready.

I understand this fence of which you speak. I've been developing and learning to drive a '98 M3 (e36) since '07. It's the front half of a cage, electrical cut off and fire suppression away from being a race car. But is that what I want to race, and do I want to commit to a trailer and tow vehicle big enough to pull a 3000# race car which is only good for one thing...

A Radical wasn't even on my list of potential vehicles I'd ever own. Too expensive mainly. Then this one was offered at a very nice price. Let's say that a new Yamaha R6 is more money.

It'll be a fantastic TT car, a howl to autocross in B-mod, I can do hill climbs, and take SCCA club race school in it. Multi-purpose. And it's a real race car. No street garbage to work around, no check engine lights, no garage full of stock parts to put back on when you sell it. There's something to that. And I'll still have the M3 to instruct track days and got to VIR and NJMP with.

If my objective was only "wheel to wheel racing" - not "driving a race car" - I'd buy a spec e30 and be done. Race NASA and BMWCCA and learn to race - but it's still a slightly crusty 1987 BMW - not a tube and carbon 12,000 rpm atomic death toboggan.

If you're at the track both days for sure, I'd be eternally in your debt if I could have your help crewing. I expect the car should be sorted pretty well and will hopefully be pretty much turn-key, but one never knows. I sent a PM w/ my contact info - lets get a plan together. SCCA provides no shortage of hoops to jump through - and with a new-to-me car to learn in essentially 2 weeks it's a handful.

I'm planning on getting my feet wet with autocrossing this season. I got decent enough tires on the daily that I can get out there and learn. I actually envy you guys that have been at this game long enough to really know your stuff.
