Best damn VW I ever built. 1.9 16v on Megasquirt. 156whp and 39mpg. It handily out ran my buddies 911SC...like no contest there....and built on a challenge budget. I miss that thing daily.

No, you can't get a Proton Jumbuck in Canada that I know of – but a used-truck lot up the street has, or had, one of those Japanese things with the oak leaves all over it from a previous post. It was white, though, not uber-forest.
I saw one of those kei-trucks puttering along a New Hampshire street recently. It was bright-red. I think it had NH tags, too. NH has far more lax vehicle laws than other states.
The Coast Guard uses those little guys at sectors and air stations to haul parts around, they're a blast.
ZAP still around? they made electric FWD pick em up trucks IIRC. I've seen a few kei trucks running around. the local water company has a bunch at the local treatment plant. all electric too. plus some "geo metros"
The Kei Trucks are legal on Catalina Island in the state of California. They are registered as golf carts which are also legal to drive on the streets of the Island. http://www.riomesaenterprises.com/Catalina_Island.htm

Brain has a serious case of "do want". Wallet doesn't. Grrr..
A little Japanese goodness that you can't buy here:
Not quite. A used car lot in Ct., had one of these for sale. Said they were road legal. (In this of all states...)

Mid 70's, IHC did it for real. They had the Holmes wrecker people install a tandem axle low-rider trailer wannabe behind the cab. Used the front axle only for power, car carrier portion was a coasterwagon. And then there's the Unimog 'power module' variations...Yeah, it's possible.

I've now got contact infformation. I'm calling this morning with the hopes of buying it. If it's gone, then it wasn't meant to be.
I met with my son last weekend because a couch he owns won't fit into his new place, I ran down and fetched it. Had a qhick slab of pizza and bolted out of town. Talking to his g/f I aske what she's driving. Nothing right now but wants a hybrid SUV. Why an SUV I pondered. Better in the snow she says. Hmmmmm gotta go.
Diesel goodness with Hak 10s? FucanA

There's one of these (or one of a similar design) a few miles from me. I know it has PA plates, although I don't remember if it has current inspection sticker(s).
I'll admit I have a minor 'want' for a caddy. Stuff in an ALH motor and interior/dash from a Mk 3.5 Cabrio... add some roll-on bed-liner & rear air springs and have a nice little 50 mpg firewood go-fer.

Remember: they hardly weigh anything and have about the same HP as a quartet of spinning hamster wheels. They also didn't have to conform to the same emmissions standards so they could get away with running the engines leaner for better economy. It was probably measured at 55 mph as well.

Any more information on that? Looks like it would make an interesting camper van...

Fueleconomy.gov show the '84 Rampage had a window sticker that read 23/31 mpg at best.
I read an article not to long ago about those small utility trucks (CSU had a bunch for maintenance workers). I lot of farmers wanted to be able to use them since they are so much more economical to run. IIRC the state in the article (KS) was going to let them be classified as farm vehicles and they could then be driven on the road for farm business.

There is one of these bad boys at my college, I believe it is the Scamp GT. I had never seen one before the one I saw at school. Another hilarious product of the 80s...
How about a turbocharged Plymouth Scamp?
Oh and if you're in the neighborhood, I have a Mopar Performance/Direct Connection overhead intercooler setup (minus the computer and hood scoop) that would go well with that truck. Plus I have the necessary transaxle mounting bracket and shift linkage upgrades one would need to upgrade the transaxle to a newer A520/555 (or just fix the stock linkage for the A525). Those upgrades alone would make the truck much more fun to drive on a routine basis and make it a little more different. Well, those upgrades and a few pints of paint to bring it a bit more into the modern era.
Thanx Turboswede, but I'm driving from Albany, NY to Flint Michigan on my wife's birthday.
If I told her I was driving to Oregon ......
