Someone on here rented a pickup to go pick up a car on a trailer? Who was it?
Buddy of mine called me to say that he wrecked his SW20 MR2 in Ohio this morning, and needs to bring it home this weekend. It'll be about a 4 hour round trip. I need to move the Escort this weekend as well, so...
I need to rent a truck and a hauler. I usually use Uhaul because they're convenient and i like their car haulers. However, i usually just rent the hauler.
Anyone have experiences?
Enterprise website says $49.99 per day, weekend rate for full size quad cab out of Greenwood, IN
Unlimited miles.

I rented a Uhaul van, I just didn't post it. Try to underestimate your mileage, because when they authorize the amount before they officially charge you, they are not allowed to reduce it if the mileage amount adds up to be significant, like $15+ dollars extra.
The MR2 is in Springfield, and he's considering just selling it to the tow company for $1000 rather than deal with it. Which would be a huge waste in my opinion.
It's a good-running turbo car with some mild upgrades including a CT20B turbo upgrade. (Transforms the car) New tires, tasteful 17xWide staggered wheels.
Enterprise price sounds better than UHaul, their mileage charges are obscene. Wonder if i could get a Uhaul car hauler with an Enterprise truck. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
Alternatively, anyone around Springfield want a Challenge-friend MR2 Turbo?
Enterprise/national as well as Avis rent full size trucks, but it is dependent on location. Many have hitches, some don't. Obviously the bigger the location the better availability.
Thanks guys.
I'm serious by the way... anyone want a baller start to a GRM $20xx car?

I am not really that interested but can you give more details about the wreck?
I see no reason why Uhaul would know the Truck was an Enterprise rental.
Paint doesn't mismatch this bad in person. Not sure what's up with the pictures.

Guess he hydroplaned it this morning. Most of the damage is in the front. Bumper and fenders are damaged, alignment looks messed up i think. Light tap on rear bumper.
I'm giving him another call in about an hour, i'll get more details and post here. I'll try to get pictures as well of damage.
If he is still in Springfield, have him rent truck/trailer there.
Drive home to Indy with MR2 on trailer.
Return next day to Springfield with different car on trailer. Get rid of trailer. Get rid of truck.
Drive second car home.

He's flip-flopping. I think he just wants to dump it. Tow company offered $1k. He has 3 young kids, has been looking at getting an IS300 for the last year anyways.
I've had good experiences with one-way rentals going towards high-demand areas. Last time i rented a trailer was to go pick up a B2200 in Knoxville. Rental charge was $20 to do a one way to Indy.
seems like it might be a sweet deal for someone (maybe the tow company)! doesn't someone on here have one that might need a motor/trans?
or a challenge project? right place (ish) and right price but wrong time for me unfortunately.
New detail:
Cop that stopped for him gave him a berkeleying ticket. "Failure to maintain control."
Ok officer, YOU try driving an MR2 in monsoon conditions on your awful roads that don't drain properly. Let me know how that goes when you hit 2-3" of standing water at speed.
What really happened is that he saw a red furrin sports car thaaannnnngggg with a younger asian dude driving it and figured that he was probably racing in the thunderstorm while on his way to an interview at the factory.
This is why i don't trust cops.
$1000 seems low for that............ of course depending on how bad the damage is. Interior and drivetrain should still be good.

Interior is leather, which means the seats are in bad shape like all MR2s.
$1000 is low, but it's a lot of hassle and money to get it home in his mind.
Sounds like he already has someone coming to get it.
From 1000 miles away. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/googly-18.png)
I demand they do a build thread on here. or no deal.
It's not a GRMer as far as i know. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/whatthe-18.png)

Because they gave a "failure to maintain control" ticket to someone who failed to maintain control?
If I read your story correctly, the car, roads, weather, and maybe even the cop wrecked the car, but the driver is blameless.
