I recall a thread earlier in the year wherein someone was looking for a cheap Smart.
Daughter got in an accident today. Car is still driveable but the front end is gonna need some lovin. All cosmetic bits and the plastic core support, no mechanical damage. Runs and drives fine.
Weighing my options right now. If someone wants it cheap (around $1k) without motor I have a line on a good body with a blown motor. Or if the motor is part of your plan then maybe a little more on the price and I'll hunt a different car for her. Or I may just rebuild it. Really just weighing my options so if there's interest in the car as is for cheap that factors into the decision.
That was me! I was thinking about getting one for the '16 challenge but I have a baby on the way (Oct) and probably can't swing the purchase price and shipping for NJ to MO. I would love to grab it. If you wait until spring(ish) then maybe but you probably don't want a half apart smart taking up your yard.
Also, sounds like your daughter is ok so that is good to hear.

Still waiting to talk to her mom (the ex) and make a plan together so it's possible it may be able to sit here awhile if they decide to move on to another car.
Post some pictures (or email me) of the damage if you would. Thanks!
I had to replace the entire core support up front after my wife tried to move a boulder with hers. (She was trying to park it where they use boulders as edge of parking lot guides). I know you've had the panels off with the repaint. That was you wasn't it? Hardest things was getting parts shipped to me undamaged from smart!
Personally I would try to use the drive train and rear suspension (de Dion) in a Vee or something similar.
Check smartmadness.com for stuff too.

Finding the parts isnt hard but the cost vs value makes it upside down, we're gonna let it go down the road. Speedycop is probably pestering Jay Lamm for a wheelbase length waiver as we speak ;)
Yeah, I've had it fully apart, the labor wouldn't be bad but I can't find the parts cheap enough to make it cost effective her.

To be honest if it was for me or for a challenge/lemons car I could make the fixes on the cheap but for my daughter I hae to do it right instead.
Is it too late to post a donor car? Govdeals to the rescue. at a little over 2k as of this posting.

I can buy all the parts for $1500 so a $2k donor wont help too much but I appreciate the thought. I may have found a cheaper deal on the parts so it may live again.
That and it looked like it was a decent haul back to your homestead. Glad to hear it might survive after all.
Looks like it needs a cheap ebay veilside knockoff nose to me. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
