Mark VI GTI are a similar story. Europeans are usually a different story as mentioned. we got a 2008 BMW convertible with a 5 year/60K warranty and only 16.7K miles for 25.6k recently. Smart shopping and knowing what the new cars cost before going used car shopping just makes sense.

Selling for or advertised for?

I bought a 2013 Mustang GT vert a few months ago with 5,000 miles.

I was thinking that with the 2015 being announced that there would be great deals. Couldn't find any. In fact, I couldn't find a stick shift mustang vert in a 200 mile circle of Cleveland to even do a test drive.

I got a good deal on my car. MSRP was over 45k, the car had $5 or $6k in mods that I liked. Paid $30k, less then the new v6 cars were going to cost me. The dealers around me only had $2k off or special financing. My credit union has used cars at two point something interst.

Before that I bought a 2 year old MINI Cooper S with 22k miles on it for less than 2/3s the MSRP. Sticker was over $30k and I got the car for $20,200 out the door with all tax and fees.

Wife's GMC ACadia - same thing. Less then 3 years old and well cared for. before that her Audi was a geat buy.

I have done real well on used motorcycles also.

Sure a used newer car isn't always the best way to go, you have to buy well. But I think in many cases you are better off. I am. It a snob, I don't care that someone drove it first, hell, I used to buy used clothes until eBay started sucking too much. I would rather save money to drive a nicer car then buy new anyday.

Bought my wifes current '08 Lexus GX470 in 2012. It had 39k miles on it, new tires/brakes/battery. Was Lexus CPO, so a 3yr/36k bumper to bumper warranty and paid less than half what a new one costs.

With the same warranty as a new one!

Except for a few particular vehicles (Wrangler 4 doors, Toyota Tacomas come to mind,) a under 20K miles, and under 2 years car are essentially new vehicles and you get a huge price break. Usually between 20% to 30% off of new. Many credit unions and some banks will give you same as new interest rates on those cars as well.

For the wife, they were a great fit. factory warranty, low miles, not a new car price.

I prefer something a little older for me.
