This month's issue of GRM has an ad from the Tire rack for the RE-01R replacement, didn't see it on their web site.
Another add from Nitto for the NT05 saying available Feb 2009, again can't seem to find anyone thats selling it.
Also heard rumors of a new Hankook Ventus RS-3, can't find any info.

They're made in big batches and shipped via the slowest, cheapest method possible. They don't trickle in :)
Tire Rack has had the Kumho Ecsta MX in 205/50-15 on backorder for about 2 years now. They keep saying it'll be available in a couple of weeks. Uhh, yeah.
Ya.....I have been looking for the Nitto NT05 also. Great reviews, lots of advertisements, good word of mouth. Nowhere to be found. I guess it's good to start promoting your product early but it would be nice if at least a few were available.

Hmmm, that sucks on the Kumho! I'll be putting 235/40/17 or 245/40/17 on the E30. It's between the Dunlop Star Spec, Nitto NT05, Kumho XS, and the Federal 595RS (not sure the bad boy one, another where the models of the tires for sale don't match what is on their web site, really frustrating).
I lucked into a deal on an S52, so the E30 will have have OBD-I S52, 540i MAF, eBay headers and a TRM chip.
Should be completely outrageous.

It is possible that they haven't actually made the molds for all the sizes yet, or it is taking longer than they anticipated.
When I worked at a tire/belt manufacturer, the tooling took a looooong time--26 weeks was not uncommon. The molds/tools are also really expensive, so maybe the "backordered" parts are not yet being produced at all. Maybe they decided there wasn't enough demand for that size?

The MX was available for a couple of years in 205/50-15 before going on permanent backorder. Maybe the mold broke or something, but you know that's not an unusual size for an Azenis-class tire. I just wish they'd stop pretending and declare the thing NLA, especially now that the XS is here.
It took a long time for the size ranges of the Toyo R888 to come to market in the US, despite the fact that the tire had been available in Europe for several years. Can't really explain that one.
