I've used the brakes mid corner in a Gen1 MR2 and a 914 on track. There was no suffering whatsoever. Do note the passenger in the car may not have felt that way.
I don't like early MR2s; I daily drive one for two years. I prefered my NA Miata. AC notwithstanding I'd rather have the 914 than the MR2.

I defer to your superior experience and driving skills. But I still prefer the AW11 to a 914 or miata on the street. Not a fan of convertibles, but for some reason my brain is happy with one if it has a targa bar. And my body prefers AC over no AC.
