Read the link to the RSclub post. The guy was chatting up a billionaire at the Silverstone GP and mentioned he was a car lover. Money bags mentioned the cars (59km M3, 92km M3, RS200, Cossie 190) and the guy showed a little interest. The owner told him he had first right of refusal if he ever sold them and the buyer figured he would never hear from him. Fast forward to January and Mr. Money calls the buyer up, they make a deal and next thing you know the guy drags home 4 brand new 20 year old cars.

interesting conversation piece but other than that I don't know why anybody would be so interested. Just think...every mile you drive it some of the wow factor vanishes. Soon it's just another M3.

I agree. Stash them away. Buy some beat up ones. If you can buy 4 cars like that at one time, you can probably afford to let those sit and be low mileage. Then, to the Auction house!

My favorite part about this whole story is the comment left on the rsownersclub forum that said, "cracking bit of kit" in reference to an E30 M3.

A cracking bit of kit indeed!

These things don't excite me much. Brand new 30 year old car....drive it and it's no longer brand new...keep it parked and let it get covered with dist again...what's the point. I guess if you had enough cash, buy it and drive the snot out of it. I would guess there would be so much work to do on a car that has been sitting so long. I just don't get it.

The M3s are cool but I would give a body part for the RS200. Want, want, want.

say what you will about it not being new anymore in a year or 2, but I would punch a nun to get my hands on an older car like that M3 for daily use with low miles. I love cars from the 80s/90s - less computer nanny gimmickery, less whizbang crap to go awry - And theres strong aftermarket for it still, so getting parts wont be too tough.

I honestly think the RS and Evo II are the more interesting story here, If that really is an Evo II then it's one of 2 Astral Blues, 501 and 502, the last 2 made...

I would drive them all , what's the point in looking at them? If you can afford to buy them , you can afford to drive them and keep them nice. having driven an E30 M3 quite a bit, I don't know how you couldn't drive it!

I've heard you get 10 hours packed full of petal to the metal awesomeness from a RS200, then its off to the engine rebuilder's...

Sound like museum pieces to me. Sell them back to Ford and BMW or lend them to an automotive museum? Driving them would be tempting, but they're too valuable now.

this

Killer find, but it almost seems criminal to drive the thing at this point. Its value and significance lies in its lack of mileage.

Odd that someone would buy it and just forget about it like that. I wonder if it was bought as an investment. It'll sure fetch a mint...
