In reply to mndsm:

How do you gain abilities? Magic? You get out and start mangling metal, until you get it right.

BMW derived? I thought it was a Chrysler derived engine. SRT-4 long block and massive turbo is the obvious answer.

Also, many times all it takes is that first step. Don't be afraid to take that step. The cars are both knackered anyway, you can't really make them worse than they are now. Buy yourself some tools at the HF Black Friday sale.

Start cutting the front end off the donor car so you can free up some space to roll the mini in the garage. disassemble the rear of the mini and start taking measurements. of the frame rails and of the donors and see where they might be matched up.

Not really... Chrysler was involved on the manufacturing side, but BMW pretty much did the engineering (finishing what Rover started). Chrysler was supposed to buy a bunch to use in European products but more or less dropped the ball. No US Chrysler product is even remotely close other than being a 4 cylinder with an OHC or two.

Since we've taken a sip from the crazy cup:

First things first, drop the pan and see what you find.

Yep. Or Ford RS1700T "Escort."

How's THAT for an obscure reference?

So, I think I have a plan. After a nice talk with SBF while blowing things up with a tank last night- I think I'm gonna throw an engine at it. As it sits, I figure a solid 3k will get me 100k miles. I can't buy that kind of reliability anywhere else. And as I don't really want another car payment ever again, it comes down to "I can afford to pay cash" or "I need another beater" I'd rather have her in the MINI instead of whatever rusty POS I'd find up here for that cash.

That is, once I find what's hiding in the pan.
