I was psyched to see that there will be an upcoming article in GRM on building a yard kart, but then I realized that the magazine probably won't come out until March.
I'm curious if anyone here has built one based on the plans in Ron Champion's follow up to the Locost book. I'm thinking about building one if I can find a suitable (cheap) donor motorcycle.

What's a yard kart?
I think it's like a riding mower without the spinny blade attached.

Yard kart article is on the board for the April issue. Not quite final yet, but it is coming soon. The on-sale date for the April issue is February 23, subscribers should see it before then.
Judging by the little photo that was in this month's magazine, it will involve converting an old riding lawn mower.

Kinda. Think inexpensive, creative and thrifty.

Yard carts are the new pit bike.
Yard carts are no fun, IMO. I had one when I was younger, one of the baja styles with big tires, and a 6.5hp Honda with a CVT. It was slow, bumpy, and the frame was starting to destroy itself by the time my parents got rid of it. It started every time, but my brothers and I hardly drove it because it was an abusive ride.
Looking back, I think a minibike, one of the old style with the industrial engines, would be easier to build and more fun.

Please the cyclekart... son and I are building one if you want the downlow. We're aiming at the type 37

I made one with a edger motor when I was 14. It only drove one wheel and handled like hell, but it was a blast!
I had one when I was 6 to about age 10. It was a blast, and where I learned to drift. It had a suspension and everything like a real yard kart, but the P.O. had put race slicks on it. Then I put a Raptor race motor on it, and left a giant dirt ring around my house in the grass for a few months

My Uncle's got a yard kart, just a mower motor driving one wheel. We used to have a ball in it when we were much younger. He brought it up to my parents place on X-mas day this year, (rural property, lots of paddock), and it was still a blast to drive!
When I read Yardcart I thought maybe you were going for something like this.
Id like to build something that is light and fast for track days and might kill you.... quickly ;) Maybe get and old 4cyl honda CB 650 or bigger and build some kind of death machine thats really fun to. At least until you hit something hard.... Something CHEAP and out of scrap. And oh ya! It gotta be LOUD as crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cyclekarts look to be a blast
I stumble on these last year some time. I am very interested in the axles and such. Should be easy to construct.
Plus 1 on a cyclekart article

Wow - that gives me some ideas on what to do with a little ninja 250 motor/trans I've got laying around.

You guys know about Grass Karting or Backyard Karting, right? (sometimes called "Turf Karting" too).
If not, here's two good info sources:
