My children managed to surprise me this morning. I have a birthday coming up next month. The standing joke for years is for them to ask me what I want for my birthday and for me to say nothing. This year they ignored me and today they gave me an early birthday gift.
This morning, my eldest walked in the back door. No surprise, he had borrowed one of the trailers yesterday to supposedly help a friend pick up a SXS. I figured he was returning it. Except when he walked in, he handed me a set of keys and said come outside. I walked out onto the porch and my daughter was there as well. I'm thinking, that's a little weird. Then I noticed what was on my trailer.
What the!!
One of my near-constant searches is an early '60s Ford Falcon 4 door. 4 speed preferred. One had popped up on Marketplace about an hour from me. I had looked at it 3-4 times and was considering buying it. It was priced fairly. I even went so far as to ask my son what time he would be back with the trailer in case I decided to message the owner.
Lo and behold there it was, sitting on my trailer, in my driveway. My 4 kids had gotten together and bought me a car. I was almost speechless. This is one of the coolest gifts anyone has ever given me.
This is a 1962 Ford Falcon 4 Door, 4 speed car. It has the 170 I6. It is exactly what I have been searching for. This is what I was going to buy before I bought the Bentley. While it's not perfect, it is a decent start to a pretty nice car. I have some studying to do to determine the direction I want to take it but the build thread will be forthcoming.

You raised some great kids! Enjoy the new ride.
Congrats on having such cool kids that obviously love their DAD and know you so well! Enjoy them and the Falcon!
Dang, that is cool. Happy birthday, Toyman!
That's AWESOME!
It looks to be in very decent shape. Inwould drive it just like that.
My experience says the wood grained three spoke steering wheel off a Mustang looks and feels GREAT!!
Good job Dad, and Kudos to the kids. =~ )
LS swap!
Just kidding. That looks like a survivor, it's earned it's right to stay just as it is. Maybe a little rust repair here and there, some bushings, wiring, brake lines, hoses, bearings....
Man, you HAVE been searching for one of those. Big thumbs up to the Toykids
That's a great looking car. Congrats!
I had a similar moment with my Dad's mother (my Nana). For years she'd ask for Christmas lists only to ignore everything on the list. Year after year after year. Then one year (my Dad and I had moved in with his parents) for my birthday I got one of those glass carved corvette models. About 1:24 scale. I was floored and speechless. She had actually paid attention to something I liked.
I shouldn't be surprised that you wanted the extra doors on your car. That's a really nice looking car for 60 years old
Aweome job by rhe toykids!
Hey, that thing's got Virginia tags on it!
Looks a lot like my Dad's old '63--same color, same engine, except his was a three-on-the-tree. And oh yeah, it was a wagon. Long gone, consumed by rust. Junked over 45 years ago. In New Jersey.
Cool gift! Enjoy!
That is truly cool. What great kids you and your wife have raised!

That's a cool new toy, man
I had a 62 Comet for a few years. About the coolest car to drive around back roads at 35mph. Love this. Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Nothing to add. You got some great kids there!!!! And happy birthday!!!
I have been kind of looking for an 63 S22 comet. Never seriously but there is a story behind why I want one. These are really fun cars and are the last before the fords all grew in size in to more luxury cars and the mustang took over the role of being the smaller fun car.
That's awesome . Great kids you have there for sure!!
Looks like the car my mom learned to drive on way back in the day.
That looks like a great car and a fun project.
Nice and I forgot about the Fiero until I saw it in the background.

Lol
i noticed that too. Along with the similarly unused G35 stacked with pine needles.
Congrats on having awesome kids and a cool car!
Wow, very cool. You're kids (and you) did a great job.
Does that car have the Dagenham four speed or was something else swapped in?

Most heartwarming story I've read in a while.
Happy Birthday

Woody, at this point I have no clue.
It looks to be mostly original.
A four door four speed anything is going to be a unicorn. Neat car.
