To be honest, I’m embarrassed that I haven’t yet been to the new location. I’ve been to the old one a few times.

I also need to talk to Chad about some new wheels. Perhaps it’s time. When I built my S&M, 22s were new so I went with the wheels I could get. My cassette now occasionally skips, and sounds like I have a bearing going up front. Maybe do some Madera or Profile hubs.

If you want anything Profile and it's out of stock let me know.  Matt Coplon's older brother is my boss and can magically get stuff lol.

So, I-4 went and I-4’d tonight.

We’re driving eastbound this evening and following a newer Mustang.

The truck to the Mustang’s left decides to merge right. I don’t recall seeing a turn signal on the truck.

Mustang driver does a very good job going hard right without hitting anyone.

My wife thinks they kissed. I wasn’t sure but, if they didn’t, it was really close.

I can't imagine that I4 is any worse than I26 in South Carolina.

The fast lane running 90. The slow lane running 60. Oh, you wanted a middle lane? Funny boy, we don't spend money to fix the gargantuan holes or fill the ruts that are literally worn into the asphalt, much less add another lane.

The 100-mile stretch of I26 between Charleston and Columbia had just shy of 900 crashes that put almost 1200 people in the hospital and killed 33. I pretty much don't drive on it anymore. Hwy 176 parallels it and you stand a much smaller chance of crashing or getting stuck in traffic for hours.

That's where I like a rental car that's preferably a minivan (somebody else's problem if I wreck it) with adaptive cruise, a couple good long form podcasts, drop behind a Swift truck or similar and just CHILL.

So, my latest I-4 experience–and “latest” meaning this Saturday night.

I’m driving home in the left lane, and everyone’s more or less playing nicely.

And then I noticed a car–no lights on at all–passing everyone on the right lane. Total stealth mode.

I'm spending the winter literally a few hundred yards off of I-4.  It's an absolute disaster.  Traffic and the dumbest berkeleying drivers I've ever seen.

Newisher Chrysler Pacificas are some of the biggest culprits of this. You flash your lights at these people and then road rage ensues.

I-4 from the 408 to US27 is a pretty terrible stretch of road. The great Seattle-Tacoma area surpasses this on every road just because of the level of terrible driving in that area.

So, I-4 last night to get to Miata night

A possible highlight: The 18-wheeler in the middle lane that’s both driving slowly and also having trouble maintaining its lane.

I 15 between LA and Vegas is utterly insane and the velocities are 80-110 with the occasional free radical going god knows how fast. The slow lane is the fast lane, half the cars are sporting 500+ HP but nobody's directionals work, many (most?) drivers are berkeleying around on their phones, and privilege is leaking all over the road like a giant oil slick.  I managed to survive the trip there and had a nice visit with some friends.  Choosing life, for the drive home I headed to Pahrump, across Death Valley, down the back side of the Sierras on 395, over the tapering down southern Sierras, right on 178 past Lake Isabella to Bakersfield, then left on the 99 and eventually over the Grapevine back into LA in order to avoid the insanity of drunk Raiders fans pissed off that their team not only moved to Vegas but also got it's ass kicked by the Chiefs-  and therefore would be hating on each other as they drove back to LA on said I 15.   522 miles instead of 261.  Worth it-  plus some great roads.  And I stood in the Death Valley lake for a spell:

Nice and, yeah, I’m okay with taking the more relaxing option, even if it adds a few minutes to the trip. Sadly, our options to bypass I-4 aren’t that convenient.

Yeah I-4 is a huge part of the reason that my standard for going to anything in Orlando like a show or an event has been raised dramatically. And geting to Sebring is even more horrific now, too. As bad as the stretch from Daytona-Disney is, the section from Disney to US27 is completely off the rails. It's either full stop or full chaos anymore.

Sorta related, I was recently looking at taking Amtrak to Tampa. You can pick it up in DeLand. The times aren’t ideal–I’d like more time in Tampa–but maybe one day for a there and back for a Cuban.

The "express" portion is usually nice. We hit it yesterday for the full length to avoid the crazies on i4. On the way home from Animal Kingdom there was an overly aggressive bro truck that came through on the express lanes. A few minutes later we passed him as he was pulled over by FHP. Haha!

Yes, I have seen FHP on the express lane–usually hanging out just after the toll gantries.

FHP loves the toll lane. Any time they can bust someone acting froggy, they will. Come to think of it, it's the only time I see them doing traffic enforcement on i-4 at all.

I’ve seen them running radar in Volusia lately, too–like monitoring the eastbound lanes this past Saturday and Monday evenings.

If SWMBO is in the car I'll use the toll lane just to avoid the crazies.  Traffic enforcement doesn't bother with the nuts weaving through 4 lanes of traffic...it's much easier & more efficient to pick off the fast-movers in a clear stream on the toll lane. FHP targeting toll lanes is something I see regularly everywhere in FL.  Double Revenue!

I skipped I-4 last weekend on my drive back form kiddo's soccer near tampa & drove through Ocala Natn'l Forest.  The drive is 30 minutes longer, but comparable when there's traffic on I-4.  While they're not great driving roads (straight), there are interesting things to see.  There's also interesting town names like Howley-in-the-hills, Umatilla, Eustis, Altoona and some hidden gem taco places.  This last trip was frustrating because it felt like we stopped at a ton of lights as we made our way north of Orlando.  On second thought, it felt a lot longer because it was longer (an hour west of Orlando)

We regularly autocross in Tavares with Martin Sports Car Club. I can either take I-4 or go the scenic route. I opt for the non-highway option out 40 and through Lake County.

And we're going to be there next week! I'm excited, first time back in months, and with fresh pavement.
