For sure. Change of shorts needed at minimum.
And that is a great example of why I don't like open cockpit cars that have no roll cage in front of the driver.
Terrifying!
We lost some one in a radical years back in a similar type crash. Mixing what are in effect a big go-carts with full size cars is a bad thing.
Very luck that the driver of the spec racer did not loose his head (literally)
That coulda gone a lot worse, lucky the Miata glanced off to the side of the Radical-looking thing. If it had gone over the top there are many ways things could have projected inside the "cage" and there's no room for that.
I bet the cockpit's full to the brim with E36 M3
very scary.
Not sure why, but this popped into my head:
I don't know about you, but I'm getting all fund-out. Uh oh. Don't tell me. We're about to go over a giant waterfall. Yep. Sharp rocks at the bottom? Most likely. Bring it on.
I had a very similar wreck in my Sport Renault yrs ago in turn 4 at Roebling Road. I went down the inside to pass and I bumped sides with another SR. He turned into me and that lifted the front of my car so that I rotated and climbed the front of his car. My front tire ended up over his head. He was a nice guy and I never got out of a car so fast figuring that he would be seriously injured. NOPE! Tire cleared his head by a few inches and we both ran the next session. Still scary to think about 20yrs later.
damn... I could not imagine what went through that Spec Ford Driver's head when he got spun and saw the miata heading right for him..
Crazy race grouping. Well, some of the SRF guys have been saying for a long time that they wanted into the SM/IT enduros..careful what you wish for, I guess.

As a former IT racer, I HATED it when the SRFs were in the same run group. It's damn near impossible to see them in close quarters racing. They're not particularly fast in the straights, very quick in the corners so they liked to dive-bomb the corners to take a position. They are so low if you didn't notice them in the mirrors ahead of time, you just didn't know they were there.
In reply to xflowgolf:
Holy E36 M3!
The view from the Miata looked like he launched right over the top of him. From the SRF that was a much scarier perspective!
it was and wasn't. From the Miata's camera, it looked like he went right up and over the driver. From the Ford you saw that it was a roll over to the side.
Either way, I would need a clean racing suit
So I'm not a track person, but is it the miata who tail slapped the E36 M3 out of the spec racer's fault for the accident or the spec racer for trying to fit where he couldn't? I'm not talking about the guy who launched, the one who cause the spec to spin.
good question. The miata that launched was definatly "collected" in the accident and was not at fault

Yeah. They were just so much quicker than us in the corners, and then went straight "Sports Evinrude" (gotta admit, the Fords were better than the Renaults) once you got past the exit. Hell, even at Road Atlanta (pre-chicane) my stupid 1.8 ITB Golf would walk the damn things until we got to T9. Even 20yrs ago, the Race Board said, "Why are you unhappy?" when I wrote them about such a grouping. I should have been less verbose in my reply, and just said "BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO KILL ANOTHER HUMAN BEING!" instead. Equality in lap times does not translate to equality in how those times are achieved. Wasn't the "split start" actually created because of similar problems when FV and F500 were in the same group?
