Does the manta share dna with the Monza /Sunbird?  I know nothing about the but it looks like it’s only a nose cap away from those beasties..

No, I think it's just corporate styling. The Chevrolet Monza was based on the Vega, while the Opel Manta was based on the unrelated (to the Vega) Opel Asona. There wasn't much crossover in platforms between North America and Europe back then; the Chevette was soon to change that.
