Original Datsun 510 out of your price range? How about a later Nissan Violet, also sold here in the U.S. as a Datsun 510?

Billed as a running and driving example, this Datsun 510 wagon “would make a great restoration project,” per the seller.

At $3500, its amazing what a rear wheel drive platform can bring.  I suppose the whole car is there and that's good.  I personally could trick it out by removing the (fake) wood paneling, removing the rack, the ugly bumpers, then installing coil-overs, larger diameter sway bars, Libre mag wheels with fat tires, a MOMO steering wheel, bucket seats, etc.  RB20det swap, 5-speed, etc.  It would be a cool ride after that...

...or I could just buy a Miata.

A sleeper waiting to happen.  Leave the wood and the patina on the outside. SR20DET or K24 swap with a suitable gearbox and rear end. Upgrade the suspension and add some low-key wheels.

My wife drove one of those “later” 510 wagons. I need to see if she has a photo of it.

omg an f10 wagon....godawful car...wow thats painful to look at about like an old ford edsel. In fact, these should be called the japanese ford edsel. Lower case used intentionally for maximum disrespect.

In reply to DavyZ :

I'd happily own either of those two 510 wagons, just something right about the proportions and it would likely be a reliable and useful as well as fun car that wouldnt break the bank to  own.
