How easy are the SC kits to install for the BRZs now could you try one out getting it used and then resell it easily if you still decided to replace the car without much of a loss to the experiment?

Not hard. Edelbrock replaces the intake manifold, remove bumper to install the intercooler (any supercharger or turbo kit will need this, as well as say an oil cooler), flash in new tune go.

I'm sure with all the tools and a friend I could easily knock it out in a day. But I'm not sure I really sure I want to go through that much effort with the car. Or dump that much more money into it.

I did speak with a dealer yesterday, on a car on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, but it seems the trade-in value of the BRZ is EVEN WORSE than I thought.

That doesn't sound good... do we dare ask how much they offered?

2015 BRZ Limited, 37k miles, well maintained, one accident (pretty minor, ie no airbags, just slid into a ditch coming around a corner to find it covered in sand), $15k.

It's not a huge deal as the main reason as I was going to go the other direction is because they have a last years model car advertised at almost 20% off MSRP.

To be honest, that's actually more than I expected you to say.   But still...  a nearly 50% drop in 2-ish years has to be tough to hear.

Ouch and I was sad to hear my 2011 E350 Bluetec I bought with 27k miles for 27k 2 yrs ago with 67k miles is now worth about 19-20k

My point with the SC kit is if you can buy a kit used for say 3k, try it and then sell it for 2500 if it doesnt make you happy you are out 500 bucks and 2 days worth of time in the garage with beer and a buddy.

Especially when you have stuff like my '13 Mustang GT with Track Pack. I special ordered a base model with only that package. I paid $30,300 for it.

I traded it in 7 months later on a 2006 NC........they gave me $30,000 trade-in.

If I could get another $1500 in the deal on their end (whether it be on trade-in or lowering the price), I'd probably go ahead and suck it up just because that's how much I'm over the BRZ.

Possibly, but still not worth the effort. The car would definitely be a blast with Edelbrock kit, but I just really don't want to put that kind of time/effort/money into the car.

Sure, I could probably turn around and sell it and be OK. But I don't count my time as free when I can pick OT at work or side jobs or get stuff done around the new house I just bought.

LOL they should tell that to all the Japanese companies selling 5yo non-Limited models for at least that much! But that's trade-in value, you can't expect a fair price from the stealership.

Incorrect. I've received plenty of fair treatment from dealers before.

I understand they will offer less than a private party sale, however, I gain a TON of convenience by not having to list an ad, have multiple people want to come look at and/or test drive the car (most of whom aren't intelligent enough to have worked out financing on their end first), go to the bank, deal with titles, etc.

Instead "Here are the keys and the title to the car"

That's worth it to me and many people.

Plus, there is usually less sales tax when you trade in, so you save some $ there as well.  A $15K trade-in would save about $600 in sales tax here in PA.

FYI, i purchased my 2013 Accord Sport for $27k out the door. It's now worth about $14k, only 50k miles on it and meticulously maintained like most of us car nuts. In comparison my 2008 Honda Ridgeline was worth about the same two years later than what i paid for it - yep, sold that to CarMax on the spot. The Accord, I guess I'm keeping it for a few more years.

That's surprising. I wouldn't have guessed a clean avg mile Accord would have dropped like that.

New car depreciation by years since new

Also remember, by August of the preceding year the car is now a year older.  So a 2013 Accord isn't 4 years old, its 5 by industry standards.

I'll be honest. $60k for an M2 isn't chump change.

I may, may be tempted by a 2017 Mustang GT depending on how cheap they get once the '18s start hitting the lot. I like the styling of the '17 better than the '18...........but I like the '18s extra 35hp.

I don't like that you have to get a Premium to get leather Recaro's in the 18s ( wish you could still get cloth Recaro's) and I don't care about mag shocks or active exhaust.

Vagon please! Preferably a white slick-top with black Recaros and three pedals...not in that order.
