I know everyone tends to dislike these bikes, but damn it's such a blast to ride (on short rides on smooth roads ;)

Anyone else own one (or something else single-speed)?

Why would anyone hate that bike? It looks like an attractive, fun ride.

I'm a member of the single speed fan club. I have an older Schwinn converted to an ss. I'm pondering a conversion to bull bars on it.

I really like the Bianchi San Jose. The geometry looks really comfortable, and the knobbier tires could come in handy. A week or two back I was on a pitch-black road that suddenly changed from pavement to soft sand for a few hundred feet. That was a pucker moment!

I own a San Jose. It is a good bike, though they jacked the price way up last year. For the current price, I'd look at the Kona Major One and Felt Breed as well.

Geometry is pretty relaxed, very comfy. The wheels set is ok, but not great. The Cane Creek brakes are decent, though the stock pads are rubbish. I use mine for racing 'cross in the Fall, and commuting the rest of the year.

Because the cult of fixie is more about style than riding. The fact that you can spend a few bucks and have a nice fixed gear like all the style-cats pisses them off. If you want an introduction to fixed gear riding, it's a good bike to start with along with Mercier Kilo TT and Motobecane Messenger.
