Hi all,
I’m needing some help that I might be able to get here. I’ve posted on some more specific forums but haven’t quite figured this one out.
Background: I purchased my ’74 Honda cl200 and the petcock had been bypassed. By that, I mean it had the lever, gasket, and spring removed and a flat piece of rubber installed in the place of those components. This is allows the bike to run, but does away with both the “reserve” and fuel shut-off features…both of which I could really use.
So…I went on Bike Bandit (.com) and ordered myself a new lever, gasket, and spring from their listing for a ’74 CL200. The parts showed up, I went to put them together, and that’s when I realized a problem.
See here: My gasket and lever are too small for the petcock on my bike. The gasket is supposed to register in the minor diameter here and the Lever is supposed to register in the major (larger) diameter hole. But the lever I have fits into where the gasket should fit.
Below, the camera is lined up to show the major diameter dimension of about 22mm <img src="" />
This next one is meant to show the minor diameter (where the gasket fits) of about 19mm
Another online vendor also calls out these same parts for my bike.
I figure it is completely possible that the Tank an/or petcock on my bike have been changed at some point in the past. My problem is, I don’t know what parts are on there (from what bike) so I cannot order the appropriate parts to get this petcock functional again.
I’m kind of hoping someone here might have an old Honda they could take a look at for me. It would be a HUGE help.
What I know: CB750 petcock parts are too large. CL200 petcock parts are too small.
If I were to hazard a guess, I’d think my petcock might have come off a CB/CL 350 or something of the like. The style of petcock I have is the kind that threads on by way of a fitting (not with two screws into the tank) in case that’s any help.
So, could someone confirm a stock bike that had ~21.5mm petcock lever diameter (or whatever it takes to fit into the 22mm hole it registers in) and 19mm gasket diameter?
I really appreciate any help I can get. I’ve already run out of gas in this thing once (something I could have avoided if I’d had a functioning fuel petcock). Not to mention how nice it is to be able to shut the fuel off when storing the bike or working on the fuel system.
Thanks,
Clem
