Lids-thinking of replacing

I've had my AGV XR2 for 10 years, didn't ride from 6 of those years. Thinking of getting a new helmet. Do I need one, should I replace it, what full face do you rock?

Try them on, find one that fits.

Yes replace it, and try on just about everything in your price range. I wear an Icon Airframe, and love it- every AGV I've tried on has felt like a plastic bucket.

Ten years is time for a replacement. I find the Bell Star to be a fantastic fit for my head shape.

Agreed, time for a new one. I use a Shoei RF1100. Great helmet and I got it on clearance last year.

Last fall I bought a Bell Vortex, meets DOT and Snell 2010 requirements, and was $180 from Revzilla. It was the only one under $300 that met those requirements and fit my melon. I also borrowed a friends Shoei Qwest for a couple months while i took my safety course, test drive bikes, and learned to ride mine. The Only real difference between the More expensive Shoei and the Bell was the Shoei was quieter, i.e. Not as much wind nose. But the Bell was almost half the price of the Shoei...

I saw The new paint scheme Bell Vortex meets Snell 2015 certs. I also saw two Scorpion kids that meet those certs too, but I don't remember the model.

This is all you should ever consider. A friend of mine has spent the last 10 months getting his jaw reconstructed from an accident where the helmet saved his life, but being open faced cost him his face.

I roll with a Bell Vortex as well, but that was chosen for its ratings and available Transitions visor....not having to wear sunglasses is an awesome thing.

Full face ftw. I rock an Arai vector 2. I have what they call a long oval shaped head. Try them all on if you can. If it hurts, you won't wear it.

Shoei Quest for my road helmet and D6 for dirt until D6 makes a road helmet then I'll swap to D6 as I've been knocked out cold a half dozen times in my life I don't need another concussion and D6 has a lot of positive science saying there system works.

Thanks all. I have noticed the shell shape has changed compared to my AGV. Hard to let it go when it's been with me for so long. And yeah, I have a long face, awkward shaped dome. So, shopping headwear sucks.

It might be hard to let it go but they have a shelf life and yours is past its prime. Now you have a wall decoration.

Yeah. I know. I think its I don't want to deal with the local motorcycle shops around here to try stuff on. And unfortunately, DennisKirk doesn't have their showroom nor their excellent customer service anymore. DK is a little over an hour from me.

Seems so be worse as the current fashion is to have face and cheek pads so overblown they squash your face into fish shape and have you biting your cheeks.

Pay attention to the eye port, not all are the same when it comes to peripheral vision.

The Arai I have did squish my cheeks, but it "molded" to my face in about 10 days. Now it has a "custom" fit.

Shoei's now have a transition visor available too.

Hows about Cycle Gear? Yes they sell large volumes of crap lids but they sell the top of the line stuff too.

I have an rf1100 for auto-x, it was the only helmet I could get to fit me. Its flat black.

Mark- have you shopped bobs before? I got mine there and I was really happy with the experience, and you know how picky I am.

Shoei RF 1200. Excellent comfort. Slightly less money than an Arai. I know, I know, what's your head worth, but for the savings I could also protect my other extremities with some new gear.

The M2010 standard meant that helmets went from being brain buckets to actually protecting your head in a crash. Any M2010 full-face will be safe enough if it fits well (and if it fits well, it is bleepin' tight EVERYWHERE, not just in one place).

Bell helmets are made by Easton Hockey. They're shown to work every night on TV.

By the looks of it, the one I linked hasn't been Snell approved yet, but its predecessor, the vortex has DOT, ECE, and m2010 approval. I suspect they will be Snell rated soon.

I'm leaning towards the Bell Qualifier DLX due to the Transitions. Plus, it has 3 shell sizes, not to the normal 2.

What about LS2 helmets?

I hear they make lots of power and are easy to swap.
