In reply to Keith Tanner:
Sturgis bike week is a good time. Went last year because it aligned with my work vacation...I had a blast!
American bikes, imports, three wheel things, vendors,music... everything was there.
I kinda got to thinking about why anyone would go to Strugis and came up with this:
People go to state and county fairs all the time, myself included.
But, i am not a farmer, I have no land, no animals, no heavy equipment, no need to see who grew the biggest tomato, and thanks to grandma I dont need any quilts.
BUT i still go. WHY? Cause its full of cool stuff to do and see and filled with all sorts of people from all walks of life. Its an experience, a cool thing to do.
Oh, and the fair food. Love that.
So, if you have the time, get out there, stop by Sturgis for a day or two and then enjoy all the beautiful land around there, its breathtaking.
I might swing by the area this year, who knows
my 2 cents =)
Day 1: Stopped in Council Bluffs, IA. 440 miles. Dr.L is beat. She did pretty good. We had about 200 miles of rain, some of it pretty heavy. It started raining about 20 miles from home and stopped south of KC. Found out that my fancy rain suit is "rain resistant." Not "rain proof." I mostly dried out eventually.
We rode past MidAmerica track. They are having some kind of tooner event. Cars lined the entire race track and the (large) parking lot was full. We stopped for gas at the gas station next to it. A lot of kids. Well, let's just say very early 20's. STI's, turbo honduhs, etc. I asked one what was up and he said it was just some meet, but there was a drag race tomorrow.
Hess- you need to come up with a fairing for Dr.L. Four hundred+ miles of fighting wind and rain would beat up anyone. Post lots of pics and return safe....and unarrested!
She has a windshield. We got that in L.A. back in '87 on the way home from the dealer (Lethbridge AB to Bryan, TX). That windshield is good for an extra hundred miles a day. She is short enough that the wind blows over the top of her. When I ride her bike, it hits me in the face.
Did about 410 miles today. We are in Pierre, SD. Here's a Selfie. I'm not good at Selfies.
Oh, and that little windshield also cost 10MPG with the stock carb.
Last night in Council Bluffs, every motel in town had tooner cars there. At ours, there was a Civic with a fart can and a tow hook, a 240sx with huge tires and a front mount and more.
Oh, those new twinkie 103's have no trouble running 90+ across I90. We were doing 80 most of the day and those thing just kept blasting by. A twinkie 88 might have trouble keeping up with us, but those 103's, no problem.
Yeah, we like camping here. Got rained on pretty good already. The usual 5PM thunderstorm. I am going to have to get a new tent. This one leaks and the zippers are shot.

What is that thingie at the front of her tank there? Looks kinda like a pressure regulator with a gauge?
And you're right, you're terrible at selfies. ;-)
great seeing the ride report. Looks like youre having a great time, minus the rain.
Be safe. Have fun!

That is pretty cool. Did you convert the stock carb to a sprayer from an EFI car/bike or gut it to TB and drill to add injectors somewhere?
Dr. Hess wrote: The throttle body is from a Buell. Injectors in the intake from the Buell.
Brilliant. I never gave a thought to the possibilities Buell parts had for modding the rest of the line-up.
Got back in yesterday. You guys missed a good one. It was like in the 80's. Not as big and a higher Biker/RUB ratio. Less "family oriented" than in the '00's, and significantly fewer PoPo this year. Significantly more Angels around, and I understand they have bought several buildings in town, including on Main Street. They had lots of booths to buy "support" paraphernalia like pins, T shirts, etc. It also looked like more young people are getting into the scene, which is a relief. For a while, I was the "young guy" of the crowd, and that's a bit disconcerting.
