Don't want a mini-crotch rocket? Mini cruiser not your thing? I'm in the same boat. But I saw this at the Chicago bike show in February. Its a new retro standard single from Suzuki
Fairly light and comfy. Its also fuel injected. It costs about $3800 and I want one BAD.

Hmm, a blank cafe racer canvas with modern brakes, chassis, engine, transmission, suspension... Nice.

I was thinking exactly the same thing!

Wait, they're fuel injected now? Neat, that could make for a decently fun commuter.

And it could be turned into this:
No kick start? Boooo!
I suspect kick start with FI would be a bit difficult.

I don't think so?
Wouldn't it be like push starting an FI car?
I'd rather have this:
Of course, it's a bit more money, heavier, and made in India, but my inner-dork thinks a mildly updated new 50-year old bike would be fun.
Plus the new one's engine is aluminum, injected, and shares little with the old Bullet. My only concern is parts availability, and someone who could work on it. Especially out in the boonies.

I read a beginner-bike shootout in Cycle World four or five years ago where they tested the Bullet (against a 500 Ninja, Suzuki Savage, and GS500). The consensus among the writers was that everyone wanted one for an occasional rider...but they made awful beginner bikes and would be horrible commuters. They're gutless compared to almost everything bigger than a 150cc scooter, and the only time it's easier to accidentally find a neutral is to go to Switzerland.
That said, I'd love to have one too. Instant '50's bobber style.
Cycle World tested one of the new FI Enfield a couple months ago and they seemed to like it quite a bit. I think the new version is much improved over what they had five years ago.
