I hadn't seen this one before. I thought hitting a wall at speed would be bad, but this one makes me think...at least that would be over quickly. (The rider fully recovered and raced again.) Head to the 3:00 minute mark for an epic excursion.

All in all, he was incredibly lucky to bounce OVER the wall instead of hitting it. Yay luck! And I agree, IOM is nutty.
uhhhhh I watched that whole thing. So thanks for destroying my morning of productivity.....
IOM is on my bucket list. I can't imagine feeling the urge to actually race it, but what a spectacle.
When I first discovered the TT race I was fascinated. I still am - but eventually it became like a for real's Russian roulette. I'm captivated, but it's so out there I'm uncomfortable watching it.
I'm proud it exists, however! Humans doing nutty stuff because they can.

I'd love to ride around the course at a leisurely pace, but at race speeds? I used to think I would, but not after the advent of onboard cameras that allow you to see what it actually looks like.
Watch the movie "Road", if it's still available on Netflix.
It's about the Dunlop's from Northern Ireland. There won't be a dry eye!
Thing about IOM and similar races - you rarely get to make a 2nd mistake. :-(
That was a fun video. Proper "James May being James May" material.
Yes, IOM POV footage is just minutes of pure:
That said, I also know from first-hand experience that GoPro footage has a tendency to distort the perspective. It makes elevation changes less noticeable and roads/trails seem more narrow than they really are.
Went in '17 and loved every bit. I'd love to go again but the ferry, the camping, everything is super expensive while it's going on.

My best friend and I were torn between going to the IOM or going to MotoGP at Mugello Circuit and it came down to the cost. We were able to ride our bikes to Mugello and camp on the track for all 3 days.
Did you stay in one spot and were you able to see much? I thought it would be cool to sit in one of the pubs and watch it on TV as you hear the bikes scream by.
^ Pubs (crowded and expensive) and sitting outside was the best. You get that sense of speed watching from the hill but I did not stand on on the edge of the street like so many do. Ironically I had no problem standing on the corner in Ensenada with tacos and beer while Baja trucks blasted by me. The motorcycles are just missles though. We did the ferry from Liverpool but if I did it again I would be from the Ireland side and only do a day or two on the island.
