Friend is asking for help with his 200,000mile Civic. Clutch is slipping and not wanting to pay shop fees.
I work for beer more than I should.
The car will become their sons 1st beater in a couple of months.
Is there much quality difference in the Exedy vs Amazon Special ? Besides $110?
Changing a clutch on a Civic is pretty easy, as clutch changes go. It's still a bit of a job, so mine gets the exedy clutch, and the flywheel goes to the machine shop.
That's just me, but I really hate doing a job twice, or putting up with a shudder.
Exedy clutch is ~$160 on RockAuto. 5% discount available here should take care of most of the shipping.
I've had very good luck with Exedy and have been happy with their customer service. In my opinion, it's not worth it to save $70 and have to potentially do it over again.
If you're going to do all of that work, at least put in a < 8 lb Exedy or Fidanza flywheel.
In reply to chaparral :
Not for a kids first beater. Wait until he's smoked the new clutch first.
