The heat is killing the batteries in my garage door remote. Literally, I can get about 8 door cycles before the AAA battery craps out.

Is there such a thing as a programmable garage remote that I can hotwire to 12VDC?

Yes, it is called Homelink. If you don't have it in your car you can add it. Google Homelink add on.

There are also ones for motorcycles that could work as well. They usually have two parts, a module/transmitter and a remote mount button. No reason they couldn't work in a car, plus they are quite compact.

I forget which models of which manufacturer, but there were some great modular Homelink parts that are easy to retrofit. Junkyard approved.
