I missed the race and just found a live stream right after it was over. I noticed that they listed 160 entrants. Ok, they'll fit on track that long but what I don't know is how do they PIT 160 cars.?
I also noticed that by far most of the entrants were German. IIRC the highest non-German car was an Aston Martin, 6th or 7th, I think.
Most of the time, you won't get more than about 30 cars pitting at once. I'm pretty sure they don't have any safety car periods for that race. And they turn the cars sideways in the pits when servicing them too.
The garages open right on to the hot pits, and there'll usually be 5 or 6 cars assigned to each garage. It's between you and your garage mates to work out the schedule.
If you have a 5 or 6 car team, you'll likely be garaged together, but if you have a 4 car team there's going to be some other dudes in there. So it's not unusual to see three factory-supported Benz SLs sharing a garage with some dudes who towed their Opel Astra behind one guy's wife's minivan. I've even seen some of the techs from the more prestigious teams getting their hands dirty on privateer cars when nothing else is going on.
Entries are actually down over previous years. Part of that is intentional,as it got a little out of hand for a while. The first year I went they started over 200 cars.
