I just brought home this low mile 2.4 automatic Camry. It's in great shape, but the previous owner left the cruise on after hitting a raccoon and the rad relieved itself of its coolant. He drove it until it shut down.
My plan was to swap the whole motor, but it turns over great. So tell me, wise Toyota nerds of the grm. Is there any chance it just blew the head gasket? Or is it motor swap time.

Fix the radiator, fill it back up, and see what happens? You should know fairly soon how badly damaged it is.
In reply to Sonic :
Wouldn't start as is, even to drive on the trailer.
It does turn over just fine on the starter. But kind of sounds like it's lacking compression.
At best it overheated the rings and it will forever burn oil.
At worst it galled the pistons and/or sank the deck in the block.
The engines are so expensive to rebuild, and otherwise reliable in service, that it only makes sense to slap in a used engine that has a warranty.
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think I'll swap the whole engine out and be done with it.
