So bummed for Lions fans. I wanted the Lions vs the Ravens, a) the Lions are clearly cursed, after that loss, but I was hopping someone new would make to the Superbowl b) while I hate the Ravens, my dislike for TSwift is more. While I appreciate Travis K being CLE born, TSwift is too much.

Going into yesterday, I was rooting hard for the Lions. I know what it's like for their fans having been a Pats fan since before they got good, so I was really rooting for them to win it all. But alas, it was not meant to be.

That said, this might be the first Super Bowl I completely skip. I have zero interest in watching the Chiefs, and even though I sorta root for the 49ers as one of my "alternate" teams, this 49ers team is unspectacular at best and I feel like it will be a boring game. Chiefs will win, and the inevitable "Mahomes is the real GOAT" rhetoric will start. Blah....

I'm surprised by how much hate Purdy gets. You'd think the last player drafted, someone coming back from a bad injury and playing so well would be a cool underdog story but no.

He seems like a decent person even, why so much hate?

For here, has anyone even posted anything about Purdy?  I looked back, and can't find any posts about him.

As for the talking heads- they also hate Lamar Jackson, even though he's one of the best QB's in the entire NFL.  So I would not put much behind that.  They talk to make people listen, and will say anything especially negative things- learning from the school of Howard Stern.

That was a tough game. I'm still trying to figure out how Campbell managed to get the 2008 Lions to take the field for the second half.

The Talking Heads is what I mean.

It's just weird, it's a really cool story and it's an ever changing target as to why he " isn't that good" basically. Just in the last few weeks it's that he can't throw deep ( he can) he isn't mobile( he's not Lamar Jackson but he ain't Marino either), he can't come from behind ( has twice in 2 games) , he's a game manager etc

Just weird, he isn't perfect by any means but he's damn good and even broke the passing yards record for the 49ers in 16 games

So you watched, that was their goal.  It's not real news, but "entertainment".  Again, the hate against Lamar Jackson is rather astounding for what he has done and can do.  So what if he fell short yesterday.  And there's considerable disdain for Josh Allen, too.  So Purdy is in good company.

I guess it depends which talking heads you are watching. I've seen a ton of praise for Purdy. Yes, he gets criticism, they all do, but overall I think the coverage of him is quite positive.

My frustration about the Lions game is directly aimed at 1 person. Ben Johnson. Your offense was moving the ball at will against one of the best defenses in the league, why would you go into "throw scared" mode? You were beating the crap out of their right side defensive end and linebackers and keeping them honest with small passes over the middle yet you started running left side center? Huh?

I can not wait for you to take the Commanders job.

Fair, but I'm kinda stunned he gets any bad press too.

The secret to a great offense is taking what the defense gives you, and pounding them with the running game IMO. But a lot of the time it's not a sexy game. I remember watching a game where Collinsworth said something along the lines of " you can't win a game running up the middle and getting 4 yards everytime". Yes, yes you can

The Six Nations Rugby tournament starts this Friday.

Just a reminder that rugby is better than football. You spend more time watching athletes move a ball down the field than you spend watching commercials. The referees don't throw a flag every time someone touches a ball.

Have fun watching.  I'll pass- seen enough rugby to know it's not fun for me to watch.  Instead of throwing flags, the refs constantly blow the whistle for unknown reasons.

I've been a 49er fan my whole life, got to watch the loaded pre salary cap 80's teams. I think this year's team may be one of my favorites. There is no questioning the skill of the old team loaded with hall of famers. But this team is fun to watch. Plenty of skill- Purdy, Samuel, Kittle, McCaffery, Aiyuk and more. But I really enjoy how well they all play together, and with such heart. They were getting killed yesterday, and they willed their way back into the game. CMC played angry. Deebo and Kittle followed suit. Aiyuk gave it his all on every play. Heck, their fullback made one of the best catches of the game. Purdy rushing for key first downs with no though of sliding down. Mitchell going in for a TD on his first carry. No prima donna receivers complaining about not getting the ball, they are just as committed to throwing a block downfield for their running back. They all play that much better due to the support of those around them, rare in today's NFL focused on individual talent, and it's fun to watch.

You see that block that kittle got on Hutchinson? Literally pancaked him and followed him down facemask to facemask. That's some fire there on play not a lot notice.

I liked how Bosa sacked Goff twice -  lightly. He didn't slam him down or give him a hard smack. Just took him down and walked back to the huddle. No dancing, no screaming, no strutting. What does the think this is? 1958?

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Kittle had a quite day stat wise but was an extremely important part of the offense. No complaints about only getting 3 targets, he just did his job the best he could.

I may be wrong about them, but the truth is I haven't been paying a lot of attention to them this season. The Brock Purdy thing is cool; I am familiar with successful late round QBs. wink I'm pulling for them to win it all, but I don't think there's any way for them to stop the Chiefs. We'll see how they do.

No one with eyes is saying this yet, and I'm saying that as a dyed-in-the-wool Chiefs and Mahomes fan.  What is clear that if anyone playing right now has a chance at matching Brady's body of work...it's Mahomes.  He's speedrunning the HOF career.

Just for the hell of it, let's look at where Brady was compared to Mahomes after six seasons starting.  Mahomes 2018-now, Brady 2001-2006.

Brady had 3 superbowl appearances, 3 wins.  2 Superbowl MVPs.  3 Pro Bowl nods, one second team All-Pro. No MVP yet (first one was 2007).  By the end of that stretch, he wasn't even the guy.  Manning was still the QB every defensive coordinator didn't want to face.   Granted, this was before Moss/Gronk/Edelman.

Mahomes has 4 superbowl appearances, 2 wins (one unplayed yet).  Six pro bowls, 2 first team All-Pro, one second team.  Two MVP's, one of which was one of the best seasons a quarterback ever had.  Mahomes has had a better start to his career up to this point.

Biggest difference between the two is that Mahomes started his career with HOF receivers, and Brady didn' t get his until Moss and Welker got there in 2007. (And yes, I realize Welker is Hall of Very Good, not Hall of Fame.)

I'm in the boat that Brady is the best QB ever to play the game, but I think the gap between him and Montana/Manning/Marino etc. is smaller than the conventional wisdom would suggest.  To me, the longevity was the reason he's the GOAT.  Any given year other than his MVP years, he wasn't necessarily the best QB out there..but even in the down years, he was still the second or third best QB statistically, and come January he was always clutch.   He played at a high level until the very end of his career, and it's unlikely anyone is going to catch most of his counting stats because he was so good for so long.

But Mahomes is the only one who might.

Follow the money.  I'm not claiming the games are rigged, because I have no evidence of that.  But when the call comes down and the dude on the State Farm commercials or hawking Subway subs is on the other end of it...or the fella dating arguably the most recognizable superstar of Our Current Time is involved...it makes a difference.

I'm a Bills fan from back when they lost 4 straight Superbowls, and living in Maryland now I'll throw some love to the Ravens...but if I were a bettin' man, I would have laid serious coin on the Chiefs in both of those games, just for the reason above.
