Have not bought 22 lr ammo since getting a 500 round brick for 10 bucks. My brother ask me to pick him up a couple boxes of 22 lr. but "not the cheap stuff that jams a lot".
I see there are a lot of brands that I am guessing were not around in the late 80, early 90s.
How are the old school bands nowadays ? Are the like classic electronics from Emerson, RCA, and others, just a name stamped on some unknown mfgs goods ?
What brands should be avoided, not just cheap and should be avoided, but also what is expensive and no better than the cheap stuff?
The only info other info I have is he wants to use it for target practice. No ejection device info. He is slow to respond to questions....
Thanks all !
You buy CCI and Winchester and just use it.
I go through a lot of 22lr and those are the most reliable that I have tried in about 10 different platforms. If its a manually cycled ejector rifle you can use just about anything that fits in a barrel.
Yep, what weary said. My go to is CCI (manufactured in my home town) but I have also had good success with Winchester. CCI Stingers are my favorite in semi auto pistols but its super hard to find now.
I had some terrible 22lr rounds, manufactured by Peters, but I don't think they even manufacture ammunition anymore. It was in a white box with blue lettering. I got it from my dad so it was probably from the 70s lol.
I've bought a ton of whatever rural king has on hand.
If the ammo is jamming in a gun maybe some basic maintenance is in order. I shot my ancient, my grandpa bought I think before I was even born or close to it and I'm approaching 50, ruger 10/22, put a few boxes of Norma without a jam and I don't think this gun has been cleaned in 40 yrs. Even through some amscor through it without issue. I'm pretty sure I bought the amscor for $2 or $3/50.

Glad to see CCI is mfg'd in the us.
Thanks for the input.
I am another CCl user. Use it for competition with out any issue.

I hoarded up a bunch of CCI stingers and subsonic around 5- years back. ~15K or so rounds because I shoot so much of it, getting down to the dregs of it now and regretting I did not get more when it was cheap and I could have it sent to the door in California. It really is the best on the market but you pay 30%+ for the quality. 22lr varies a lot even batch to batch, I have a lot of the aqulia hyper rounds that work in almost everything that are older. The last 5000rd brick I bought is garbage.
22lr should be used for fun and rodents where reliability is not your main concern.
The last big box I bought I think was Winchester Wildcat .22, and it was pretty sketchy. A lot of FTE's.
The best I've found recently was SK Long Range Match. Superbly accurate in my Ruger 10/22.
No complaints about CCI, especially given the price.
