If you haven't seen this demo video it is pretty impressive
far better abrasive
Based on that I bought a few 4 1/2" grinding discs from Amazon to try. All I have to say is "WHAT THE BERKELEY"
Absolutely ridiculous. Aggressive is too mild of a word. You can gouge out an inch wide swath of 3/16" steel in seconds. The heat affected zone is much smaller as well. They don't leave swarf like a grinder. It is more of a bass boat style metal flake than the dust I am accustomed to. Also very durable. It still has a sharp edge after a half hour of "holy crap look at this thing go!" gouging.
These things are so aggressive that they might not be suitable for my intended use which is knocking down welds on sheet metal. Less heat in the panel is a very good thing there.
The flap discs will be here in a few days.
Color me impressed.
As a person who uses a Dremel for jobs that I should have something bigger for, I'm very interested in this.

wow. As someone who regularly picks up pieces of freshly ground metal and burns himself, this is attractive.
Also, would love to replace one of my wheels on my bench grinder with that compound.
The want is strong. That would have been really useful 10 years ago, but Im sure I can find more things to disappear.

Yea, it is good stuff. I prefer the flap discs with that type of material, they are still very aggressive but leave a nicer finish. They are much better for grinding down welds.

Intense. I wounder how they compare to Metabo and Walter wheels.

There are quite a few manufacturers with similar ceramic abrasives that are very close in performance.

I have no idea where this thought came from, but I want to see how fast it could chew though a snub nose .38sp.
I'm a pretty big consumer of flappers and while 3m makes quality stuff, we're better served by the Lehigh Valley Abrasives flap wheels...much cheaper and made in EU. They have a ceramic version too but I buy the Zirconia generally.
Video was more a function of the grinder than the wheel, IMO.
I've tested a bunch of wheels from Klingspor Pferd and Walter and while they are noticably better...2-3x better... when the price is 3-4x more expensive the value for us is in the LVA wheels.
That said, there are a bunch of specialty type wheels like the polifan from pferd I'd like to try.

My nephew came up and was helping me fab up a railing around a patio and he had the Polifan wheels. Damn, I'm hooked. I just ordered three from Amazon for ~$20/ea.
