I'm OK with/enjoy single lane roundabouts.
Its the two lane ones that almost get me killed on a regular basis.

Last year they put two just 3 miles south and there are plans to put two at Exit 11, replacing a side street T stop. Cops say there are the same number of fender benders but they happen at a slower speed.

Even better, the worst type of accidents (head-on, slamming into someone making a left turn, red light runners going into cross traffic, etc) are almost impossible. Accidents are all at a nice oblique angle.

Lots safer for pedestrians, too, since you aren't always waiting to get clipped by someone turning right at a stoplight/sign. Here in Michigan, drivers actually yield to pedestrians. Honest-to-god stopping for pedestrians waiting to cross the street. It's bonkers.

The new ones have variable camber across the road's cross section. It's there to freak drivers out without sending them off the road. I think my traffic engineer coworker said they design them for 12 mph or something. A little throttle at the apex of your turn gives you a really delightful drift that self-corrects as you leave the roundabout. If you're into that sort of thing.

They work well when people are properly designed.

They are very common here now. Most people can negotiate them without too much trouble.

When I was 15 I went to England to stay with my cousin who had just got his drivers licence, about the same time his mom bought a new bright yellow Austin Mini. About the time I left 4 weeks later, my uncle was taking it back to the dealership because the tires were already scrubbed off. But of course that was thanks to cousin Andrew doing 15 trips at top speed around every roundabout we came to all that summer....

I love Traffic Circles!! Sorry, I won't call them roundabouts.. Not Since Lisa Simpson ruined it for me..

One near my parents house has great speed curbing.. Since I usually go straight it is like a chicane for me. When I go thru it. I go B.T.C.C. on it's ass!!
