Know there are some fans here, sounds like this could be a fun car:

This 1966 Chevrolet Corvair is an extensively modified racer that has been campaigned in the SCCA GT-3 class. The car proved competitive in the mid 2000s, with several wins and a lap record noted in the SCCA logbook. Last raced in 2011, the car is fitted with a modified air-cooled 164ci flat-six, Weber carburetors, ATL fuel cell, 4-speed manual gearbox, upgraded suspension, four piston brakes, three-piece Panasport wheels, fiberglass bodywork, and more. The car carries an SCCA logbook and is sold on a bill of sale.

The bodywork has been considerably altered, and the only remaining original Corvair parts are the lights, floor, roof, rockers, and firewalls. All of the remaining panels are fiberglass, including the flared fenders. Per the seller the car tips the scales at just 2,100 pounds.

What a good lookin' car! It's nice to see a GRM sticker too.

Very cool car. Price is pretty low, too bad I am poor, or maybe that is a good thing.

I would rock that car in CP, plus some hill climbs and track stuff.

That car is pretty much a max-effort Corvair. I've seen it in person and it is well built. I think the last time it sold it was around $20k.

I believe that car was built by Dan Gianotti and now Warren Leveque currently owns it and is the one selling it.

I too have seen this car in person and it is rather impressive.

$5,000 is a steal for that hardware.

In reply to Appleseed:

I'd be willing to bet he won't let it go for under $15k. Problem is there aren't too many people looking for a Corvair race car who also have $15k to spend, and the people with $15k to spend on a race car don't want to be uncompetitive.

The motor alone is likely worth at least $5000. Heck, the carbs are about $2000!

I think GMR needs to hunt this person down. A couple pages with photos about that car would be really cool to read about!!! Maybe get Tim in the driver's seat and get his description of what it is like to drive it "at speed".

Bid currently at $8K w/ two days remaining.

Read somewhere recently this was a YS car. The original steel body panels were cut off and used for the 'glass molds. Owner/ builder sold the original YS ID plate.

Wonder how high this will go. This would be a great historic car.

Of note: Stinger bodies are almost entirely stock with the exception of the engine cover and the sail panels. Doesn't mean they didn't do that, but there is nothing special about a Stinger body. Perhaps the panels had already been modified (flairs etc) in metal?

Moving of the tag is common. As far as I know, there is only one historically raced Stinger with the original body (I know the guy who owns it), thus the fact that the value is in the tag.

It's a cool car, but there is not enough Corvair left for my interest (I don't really like the idea of silhouette cars).

It DOES give me the motivation to make a modification to my car. In one of the pics you can see the rear suspension and the lower control arms. He has Crown bracket on in (originally designed to keep the camber flat on V8's, but also used to reinforce the mount point). One of the real pain with them is it make taking the lower arms off difficult (they need to twist). BUT, he has cut them in half. I have been considering that, and after seeing his, I am going to go ahead and do that.
