At least I got it into the basement and I'm not working on it in the driveway?

Pulled mine out that last storm where we got 18" on the south shore. Started first pull. Only problem is the cord ripped off in my hands. Tried installing a new one. Impossible to get the rewind spring back in, so I have to remove it and wind it back by hand and then reinstall. Need to order a whole new pull assembly. Spent that whole storm with my kid holding the pull assembly firmly against the engine while I pulled. Started every time first time. Saw your thread and remember OH SNAP, forgot to order the new pull assembly. Off to go replace a water heater. Hope I finish before the roads get too bad.

It's gonna be hard to move it around with that jar on the tire... Just sayin'

Good luck, I woke up to only 4" and a guy doing touch up plowing with a tractor knocked out the end of my driveway. This was the first time I've really wished I had a snow blower again. As far as losing your pull cord, electric start is nice to have.

Last evening, it was an unseasonably warm 46F here and I rode my motorcycle to do errands, then over to a friend's house to fix the pull rope spring on his snow blower. Then I grilled lamb chops on my deck and sat out there looking at the clear sky drinking some Dale's Pale Ale.

I woke up today and it's 15F, windy and there is 10 or so inches of snow in the way of me getting out of my driveway and it has drifted to 3' against the garage door.

My snow blower won't start.

I took the day off because my wife had a meeting she couldn't miss so I was going to drive her. Got up at 5 to walk the dog and there was no snow. we hurried and got dressed to drive down there before it got bad, as it's about 50 miles away. 30 minutes later there was over an inch on the ground. We gave up after about 15 miles/45 minutes. We're at a good 6 or so inches now and still coming down heavy.

I had this running when it was warm, but it was not interested when it was cold.

Anyone know anything about starter wiring? I had to take this apart to weld the bracket back together and honestly, I wasn't expecting to get it back into one piece. I need to know which post the brushes go on, and which the leads from the starter button go to.

Live snow update- Haven't seen it snow this hard in a long while. The halloween storm of 2012(?) comes to mind...

I got mine into my garage last night. Mine's a 1987 Bolens with an 8-horse Tecumseh. I inherited it a few years back from my uncle who bought it new and didn't use it much, but the original carb was junk from sitting so long, so I tossed on a new one. It runs ok, but it stumbles every once in a while and sparks out the muffler. Not sure what's up with that. It's gonna get a workout tonight!

Very fine snow at the moment. Maybe an inch on the ground. Pondering taking the truck out for a drive as I have been working in my home office in the basement and want to get put for a bit. I may drive over to my office to check the mail or something.

It is good to have a big AWD truck with new AT tires on it. If I want a gourmet coffee or something and there is a foot of snow no problem. If there is 18 inches of snow or more I take the wife's H2.

Its on here in Rochester NH. Not a lot of wind yet, but the snow is building. Started about 2 hours ago, town plow has been by once, pretty good windrow at the end of the drive way.

Its good to have an understanding boss that lets me work from home on occasion.

Re furbished the sears 8hp this fall. The auger on one side was not moving the snow to the blower last spring. I thought it was a sheer bolt but it turned out the welds on the bracketts that were holding the spiral outer part of the auger to the tube in the center had broken. So I welded that back together. I also cleaned and applied grease to all the bearings and chains and bushings on the whole unit and it is running like new.

Oh and one thing I learned is make sure the tire pressures on a snow blower are correct and even. It is amazing how much better they work with the tires correctly inflated.

We got only an inch or two. Heavy part is moving south of us.

Messed up on my reply to Silver Fleet. Might be lean. Original carb had an adjustable main jet. If so, play with it. The replacement may not.

Just finished getting the thing working and drove into work. Roads aren't too bad, 93South was a bit sloppy though.

The starter wasn't engaging the flywheel on it, which I thought was just some loose bolts - Nope! 2 of the 4 dinky spotwelds that attach the starter body to the bracket broke. So I had to completely disassemble the thing, weld the bracket back on, then reassemble. I suppose this is why I own tools.

Got the starter back on, fished the carb out of the chemdip bucket and reinstalled, put in some fresh gas and she fired right up. Just in time to give my wife a crash course on snowblower operation so I have some hope of getting back in the driveway this evening.
