Maybe I'm missing something, but what's wrong with adoption?

I know, I know, Craigslist is an absolutely stupid idea, but I don't see money requests, or other things that would be obviously illegal.

I know LOTS of poor people who personally struggle with dilemas as gut wrenching as this every day. I also know several people who have adopted children without agencies, or by unconventional means.

Oh yeah, I agree, there is nothing wrong with adoption. I think, however, CL is not the correct path.

CL is pretty strict about their pet adoption listings. I'm going to assume this is borderline against "terms of use."

You wouldn't believe how many different weird situations we came across while looking to adopt.

I agree, I don't see a problem with this, as long as she doesn't just give the poor kid to the first person that calls up with cash. Due dilligence is going to be harder, but not impossible. I wish good luck to everyone involved.

If this ad is for real, I don't necessarily agree that mom sucks. Mom might not be able to serve as a mother to this girl, but it is possible this is a very hard thing for her to do and she does it only out of the kind of selfless love that is job qualification 1 for being an excellent mom.

Takes all kinds of critters to make them fritters, you know.

Amen.

I'm much less offended by a craigslist ad than I am by the fact that it costs tens of thousands of dollars to do it "the right way".

I dunno.I have a gut feeling that there will be some sort of back lash from the ad.I'd hate to see her daughter taken away from her and put in a foster home...instead of going directly to a Family that wants her.

I'm sure that she asked family and friends first...or at least I hope that she did.

Discussion starter so take it with a grain of salt:

Adoption is all about selling babies-which I'm fine with. What I'm not fine with is the fact that the attorneys, home inspectors, and state get all of the money with very little to none going to the mother. They should be honest and call it baby selling and cut the mom in on the deal.

BTW-we will get every dime we paid back through tax credits. If you are considering domestic private adoption and think you cant afford it, you just have to be able to carry the debt for a year or so and they you get all or most of it back.

Yep. Doing it "right" is ridiculous.

I wasn't posting this to say that I was offended, just the fact that it's sad that it has to come to this.

I have a cousin who needs to get snipped. He's popped out six babies from five different mothers and my aunt is the one that ends up having to take care of them because his meth-addict ways prevent him from supporting any of the children. It's sad just like this scenario...which is why I posted. I feel for the child. Not offended.

This morning I heard about a local charity that is a home for childer with dissabilities. The kids come from families that will nolonger take care of them because there is somthing mentaly or phisically wrong with them. One instance that was cited was a woman that after surgury to save her childs life she went to the nurses station on the ICU floor and while slamming her fist down said to the head nurse "You didnt tell me my child would be paralyzied for the rest of his life" then walked out abandoning her child and never came back.

I'm not saying that a Craigslis ad is good nor bad. While I question her means I would urge her to investigate other resources within her comunity and use adoption organisations that are available to her.

My observation is that there are some messed up shallow people in this world. There is a special place in hell reserved for the woman mentioned in my story. And yes I am being charitable calling her a woman as she is no lady and certainly not a mother.

Dude, I don't know what to say. I expected an infant but reading that she is 5 hit me. I have a 5-year old little princess and I couldn't imagine what could make me give her up. This woman is either very mature and sees that she can not give this little girl what she needs and really want to the best for her no matter how hard it is for her, or she's a horrible woman that just doesn't want a kid cramping her style.
