Because I only had two cats and a dog, I obviously needed another animal in the house. A friend was getting rid of her sugar glider, so I told my wife she could have him. Now we have a sugar glider named Ace.

You certainly do. I've seen em before, but never really understood- just what the hell does a sugar glider DO? Are they like hamsters?

How's it doing with the whole bonding thing? I've read it's really important to get them as babies to properly bond with them so they're people friendly, but haven't read much about how they do with switching owners. Seem like cool pets, though!

Um cool. I heard they can be cranky little buggers though, is that true?

I'm curious how the other four legged friends get along with it.

Those always seem like neat animals. The way my cats stalk birds through the screens when the doors and windows are open that guy wouldn't be long for this world in our house unfortunately.

He is a marsupial, so not a rodent like a hamster. He eats the food my wife gives him and pisses off the dog. Imagine a miniature flying squirrel.

Especially if there is only one, they need to bond with a human. He flies solo (See what I did there?), so he does need quite a bit of attention. That was a big talk my wife and I had before we decided we would take him. He is already people friendly, but we have to bond with him so he is more comfortable with us. So far ,so good.

He is still a little depressed from being out of his old home and adjusting to his new home. Yep. They are like dogs in that matter.

Very well actually. Since he isn't a rodent, the cats aren't interested in making him a snack. They are interested, but not aggressive. They sniff each other through the cage. Yesterday, my very timid cat and him were nosing each other. I am hopeful they will play with each other when I am more comfortable. I am nervous because the cats have all their claws.

The dog on the other hand is so curious that she won't shut up. I'm pretty sure she is, but not ready to risk it. I've seen what she can do to squirrels.

I am rater surprised with my cat's reaction.

Cute little bugger!

Yep, but a few nights ago he wanted attention and wouldn't stop barking!

How is the odor? Are they musk-heavy like a ferret?

In reply to RossD:

A bit of a musk, but only if you stand down-wind.

We had a pair of them, very cute little buggers and the sounds they make are very interesting. When you say barking you aren't kidding, they bark like a small dog, and the noise they make when they are scared and excited, well it almost defies description.

If you dont already have one get him a wheel, there are plans for making a cheap one out of bucket lids out there on the net. They go crazy in a wheel. Ours would just get it spinning like mad then stop and enjoy the ride, I'm surprised they never made themselves sick.

Not sure what you are feeding it now but there are very few if any good commercial foods available for gliders. Fruits and veg are good snacks but don't supply their needed nutrition. We used to make up glider food and freeze it in ice cube trays, made about a month at a time, they loved the stuff and it wasn't too terrible to make.

He has a wheel. Luckily it is pretty quiet.

We're giving him pellet food with a snack that is covered in vitamins every other day. We are running low on pellet food and planning on ordering some better stuff. We are going to review his diet before we order more.

Ace got severely sick and almost died. He did his best imitation of me and began seizing. He is back to normal and in that time we bonded. A lot. (I really posted this just to share the picture.

JThw8; That is why I got another.

trucke; I sleep straight through their shenanigans.

They are still in separate cages. Tonight I put them in the same one for a bit, but had to separate to feed them. I'll figure this out as I go.
