Hey!
I'm a snow bird...can't afford CDN winters...I'm retired and love the USA.
I go to Myrtle Beach (SC) in the winter. I will be looking for a hot rod to buy next time around (DEC 2010 to MAR 2011). I need something small that works. Body could be soso but perforation free....well sort of. Here' some ideas:
Fiat 850 coupe or spider (a love affair !)
Ford Festiva / Aspire / Escort,
Honda Civic (Hummm....not too exclusive !),
Mercury Capri (The Australian built one...now that' exclusive),
Chrysler Neon (Hummmm...might fail on me too !),
Toyota Tercel / Paseo (No sticky throttles !),
Nissan NSX coupes, the smallsquarish one,
Fiero (No fire damages !),
Mazda MX3.
You get the idea...and the jokes. Price has to be on the low side of 1500 US$. Will pick up in NC, SC, GA, FL, AL.
Thanks
Bear

Snowbirds? Did this used to be your ride?
That is what I first thought of also. The do a good show.
Any $1500 fiat 850 (other than rusty spiders) are not really around anymore. A running 850 coupe was for sale for $6k, but thats the only one I ever saw for sale.
I've learned from experience that the words hot rod, and Tercel do not belong on the same page. I have one with a mint body, and bad motor for $400 of you want it.
While I have seen examples in person, locally, or on CL of pretty much every car you mentioned (the 850 was in Fl...Daytona Beach, I think) most of the cars you listed are harder to find than a heterosexual guy in San Francisco.
Your best bets (price and supply wise) are a Miata and a Civic or Accord. If you want more car, the Maximas from '96 through 2002 are popping up like mushrooms after a spring rain.
Got it.
Tercel looks good.
No I did fly planes but more like bush ones...this is Canada, bushes and taxes.
I'll see ehwn I get there.
