I could hear something outside earlier today: Snap! Crackle! Pop!
Then I saw some of the plants at the base of our big Oak shaking about.
And the biggest armadillo you’ve ever seen came waddling out. Coulda put a saddle on that one.
Last I saw, it had made tracks to the back of the yard. From there, it can squeeze through the fence and get to a woody area.
Welcome to Florida.

Thankfully, this wasn't a story about David breaking a bone on the BMX or something.

Keep waiting to see a tank possum here in Atlanta. I've seen them down south in Newnan, but so far the Atlana metro seems devoid of them.
I think they are hilarious.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I've seen armadillos around here, but not in my yard. Are they a nuisance, an asset, or just a neutral critter to have around?
I had a huge gopher tortoise in my yard. That sucker tore stuff up!!! I was going to encourage it to find new accommodations, but it moved on of its own accord.
In reply to DrBoost :
I figure they eat bugs and stuff. I just don’t want to have a dog/armadillo incident, so we keep the dog inside if we have a visitor.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
As long as you aren't big into gardening/ large livestock that can break legs, they're just fun critters.
Some can be asymptomatic carriers of leprosy, so don't let the pups eat them, but they aren't really fighters, so if the dogs run up on them they'll scoot or turtle. My dog chased one off into the tire barriers at Hallett on a track walk and had a blast with that
their carcasses litter our roads here in the summer in E. GA. dang tankrats get spooked by oncoming traffic, and jump straight up like a claymore going directly into your radiator instead of just hunkering down and getting flattened.
admittedly they are cute, but they'll absolutely destroy your yard. and a not insignificant number of them carry leprosy, so maybe don't eat em.

I have never injured my right arm, but it occasionally likes to have my wrist, elbow, and shoulder pop in succession when getting up off the couch.

That's fine, the tegus will continue their northern expansion and soon they'll push out the armadillos.
