Once upon a time, a fledging cable TV network made history by broadcasting music videos as its' exclusive format. One of the tunes featured in the network's success was "Money for Nothing" by the iconic group Dire Straits.
It took a quarter of a century, but the song has hit the rocks in the dire straights of political correctness.

Apparently Canada didn't get the news that word now refers to H-D riders...

I always liked this one:

Much about nothing in my opinion.
I've heard plenty of rap songs with various offensive words in them. I've heard plenty of songs with the B word in them that will send some women into a rage.
Straight silliness.
I always liked this one.
The local radio channel, a clearchannel clone, blanks out the word from the song when they play it.
The offending word can certainly be offensive to certain people. So can many of the other words that DON'T get bleeped out.
This instance is definitely less than offensive when you look at the context and the entire lyrics of the offending verse.
I hate people.

How utterly stupid. The song is referring to the kind of close-minded comments that the berkeleying musicians themselves experience, it's not in any way a slur by the song towards gays. Sheesh, why cater to the stupidest denominator?

I have always enjoyed Hey 19. Speaks to my single days, had the exact experience in The Hobbit, a since-closed bar in Ft. Lauderdale.
I know a good deal of gay people. I don't know of a SINGLE ONE that's offended by that word.
Anyway, I always thought it referred to Ringo's line at the end of Helter Skelter, "I got blisters on my fingers."

Less commentary and more links, please!
It's for the children (masquerading as adults).......
Idiots. I wonder how they will block stations in America from broadcasting it to be heard across the border?

Hey 19 = Steely Dan

Skateaway = Dire Straights

Instead of blanking the word, they should bleep it. That makes it more fun, as demonstrated HERE
Oh, yeah - favorite Dire Straights video - Does Weird Al's take count? Money for Nothing / Beverly Hillbillies
I was always a fan of Skate Away (sorry can't link to the Tube).
My favorite Dire Straights line:
"Two men say they're Jesus.. one of em' must be wrong..."
Industrial Disease (1982)
Someones got to want ban that.

Goodness, I shall go destroy my copy of the CD right now! I've had it since 1986 - and it's Canadian! Ooooo, contraband.

One local radio station - I think it's another Clear Channel one - stuck an unintentionally hilarious bleep in Everlast's "What It's Like:"
Then late one night, there was a big... fight, and Max lost his head /
He pulled out his BLEEEEEEEEEEEEP and wound up dead.
The words under the bleep are "chrome .45," but you probably thought it was something else there, didn't you?
Sultans of Swing, a live version at least.
Chris Rock's bit on the context in which the word 'faggot' is used is social and comedic genius.
"That E36 M3 is bananas, B-nah-nanuh-nanuhs!"

Oh, and I'm shocked that anyone's shocked by (presumably) the CRTC banning the song. It's HATE SPEECH after all, 'inciting hatred toward an identifiable group,' which could land Mark Knopfler in jail for up to 14 years if he lived in Canada. Welcome to America 2030.
Telegraph Road , especially this version, was always my favorite Dire Straits song. It's just such a haunting melody and I love the way the story unfolds. Yep, still my favorite.

FTW.
Alchemy Live would be on my 'island list' of CDs. Truly regret that I was never able to catch a dIRE sTRAITS show in person.

I'm right with you on that one. Love that line.
Hmm, I'm supposing they don't play In The Flesh from The Wall on the radio much either...

I always thought that Canadian Radio could only play Rush and Ann Murray anyway
