I've got to go to Nashville for a wedding in August. I was thinking about making a week out of it. What to do and where to go in Tennessee.
Preferably not city stuff. Specifically looking for a cabin on a lake. I thought I might tow my boat up and play for a few days before subjecting myself to the city for the wedding. Rustic is good, off the beaten path is great. I'm even willing to leave the power boat at home and haul the canoes or even walk. I don't have to be in Nashville till Thursday. Anything within several hours drive is good with me.
Help me out. I've been there once, for the worlds fair in 1982. I'm pretty sure it's changed a little since then.
which side are you coming into TN from? Coming from the Southeast, Raccoon Mtn reservoir and campground.
Coming from North Carolina, look for stuff around Norris or Fontana lakes.
Coming in from Eastern Kentucky, Big South Fork and Frozen Head state park offer some nice places. Western Kentucky, Id recommend Land Between The Lakess or Reelfoot Lake as destinations.
We are coming in from the NC side. I've looked at Fontana and Nantahala. SWMBO would like something closer to Nashville.
Do You know anything about Cedar Hill Lake and Edgar Evans State Park? We were thinking about renting a cabin for a week.

I know you said not city-related, but Lane Motor Museum is a must stop for a car guy. Maybe after the museum go to Jack's Place in Nashville for some GREAT BBQ.
Then retire to the cabin and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist.

That sounds like a great Friday plan. I can burn most of the day with the boys doing that and the wife can be doing wedding stuff with her sister.

Check out Fall Creek Falls State Park which is on the Cumberland Plateau in the triangle between Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville. Very isolated but great amenities.

I know it's city related … but if you're a country music fan, it's hard to find a better place than Nashville
Jack Daniel's Distillery tour.

My family did that in '82 when we went to the Worlds Fair. I might have to hit that again. I still distinctly remember sticking my nose down in one of the huge copper kettles and taking a deep breath. It almost knocked me out.
