How funny, I just saw a story on Absinthe. Turns out that most of the stories about the dangers of Absinthe were started by the French Wine industry at the turn of the century, They were loosing major business as Absinthe became France's national drink. The Bohemian movement took to Absinthe based solely on the "the man isn't going to tell me what I can or cannot drink" principal.
Many years ago, some friends and I were partying at Ohio State University. One guy was legally disabled, due to his dyslexia (he had a 3rd grade reading level, but he was acutually a smart guy).
We all watched while this guy grabbed the bottle of Everclear (190 proof), poured himself a shot, then drank it. His eyes watered immediately, and he began coughing. After the laughter subsided, he began chiding all of us for not telling him what he was drinking.
