this evening I'm flying back to MI to see my wife and daughters. wife was here in SC 2 weeks ago, but i haven't seen the little ones for 19 days -- that's the longest i've ever been away from either of them. the 7-year-old is coping well, but the 4-year-old is having a hard time. i lie awake at night because i don't know which lesson will stick with her:

  • daddies go away

or

  • daddies always come back

My dad traveled for his job, and was always gone during the week, sometimes for multiple weeks at a time. The takeaway lesson from my childhood was definitely, "Daddies always come back." (And that it's WONDERFUL when Dad comes home.) Don't worry, it will be for them, too.

I spend a lot of time on the road for work and it is harder on me than it is on them. I call every day, check in and email back and forth. I end up doing a lot of wrestling, catch and biking with them (when I should be doing something else) to make up for it when I am home.

They are used to it now - but I'm not.

I'm getting ready to leave my wife and 2-week old for a year, I sure hope this is true.

I see you're US Army, so you are probably going someplace hot and sandy. Good luck and God bless. Momma will make sure the little one knows who Daddy is and your return will turn your hard ass into mush!!

I think you need to take them all down to Belle Isle this weekend for a picnic.

Thanks, Margie. I needed that.

My dad said he would come home more if we were good kids. And he only worked in the next town.

You'll need to log in to post.
