In reply to SilverFleet:

We got 106" over the course of the winter of 96-96 in RI--I think it was closer to 120" in the Boston area. I remember that fairly well.

This might be the worst single month I remember, as normally, every storm doesn't dump a foot down.

Dear Snow,

I could say “it’s not you, it’s me,” but that would be the biggest lie I’ve told since I promised the British they wouldn’t get shot at if they showed up by sea. It is you. It’s 100 percent you. But it wasn’t always you. Things started off so well between us; you were so novel, so beautiful, so calming and clean when we met. Remember how exciting it was when I shut down for the first time, and we skipped school and work, and frolicked through my streets together? The way you made me feel so pretty, so refreshed, and seasonal?

I’ll never forget those wonderful first days. But that was the early stage of the relationship; now you’re dirty all the time, you never clean up after yourself, and you’ve grown even colder. At this point, I’m just feeling...well, smothered. You won’t leave me alone. I tell you I need space and you just keep showing up. How do you not see that by always hanging around, you’re making me turn inward? I don’t even leave the house anymore because I know you’ll be waiting outside my door.

Even if you were to back off immediately, we’d still be totally over. I’m literally up to my neck in dealing with the mess you made. Because of you, I may need to borrow equipment from New York City.

Do you know how embarrassing that is? Those guys already think of me as their inadequate little sister, and now I have to go to them with my gold-domed hat in hand and ask for help?

It’s like you’ve turned into this unstoppable monster. I don’t even know you anymore. You’ve also ruined a lot of my stuff; I can’t find like five-thousand of my cars, my bikes are all buried for the foreseeable future, and you’ve killed every single plant I had.

Also, now is probably a good time to tell you I’ve met someone. His name is Spring, and while it’s long distance right now, he’ll be moving in hopefully sometime around March or April.

Maybe next winter we can be friends again. But until then, please lose my address.

Yours unfondly,

Boston

Thankfully, all this crap is happening toward the end of Winter. The end is almost in sight. If this were December, I might be preparing the noose by now.

Keep in mind that a few years ago, we had an 80 degree day in March.

I shall do a dance to make this happen again.

Also, winter ends on 3/21. That's 5 weeks away, Senor Negativo! That said, an April snowstorm wouldn't surprise me in the least.

We usually get March snows, but at least those are interspersed with the occasional 45-50 degree day. That, I can happily deal with. My biggest issue right now is the 'driveway creep'. Every storm it gets narrower. My 2 car wide driveway is now barely truck-fittable. The worst is that there is no chance of getting it to bare pavement anymore. There's just so much ice and snow and slop on top of it that its a major crust. I just have to pay someone to douse it in sand every storm after I'm done with snow removal. I would kill for just a 2-3 day stretch of sunny and above freezing just to get my driveway off the 'World's most dangerous roads' list...

But alas. None of that. Instead I will grace you with my lovely view from my office.

The day I moved to New England as a 11 year old kid, we got 6" of snow. Not all that uncommon except it was May 10 1977. The following winter brought us the blizzard of 78 and over 4 feet of snow in R.I. Worked in Hingham Ma yesterday. Never in my life have I seen so much snow. Those guys got whacked.

I left Ohio in Jan 1977. 6' of snow in my front yard. Minus 10*. Got to Miami on the 17th. It snowed. In Miami. Has not happened again. That was panic inducing.

When carter got elected right? I recall folks saying it would snow in Miami the day he got elected and there it was. Weird.

Not much snow up in anchorage right now. It's there but not a lot.

We have enough snow now that at this point, I wanna see how much more we can get. Call me sick and twisted, but I like winter right now which might be due to the fact that my winter beater is a $400 jeep.I can do without the below zero wind chills, though.

Haha, love it.

Revenue from the north is our favorite kind. I'll let them know you're passing through.

Heavy snow here today, probably got enough to turn the grass white for maybe an hour before the sun came back out and it melted by sunset.

Low taxes.

Cheap cost of living.

No vehicle inspections.

But I'm sure Massachusetts has its appeal. Heck I was born there. Just didn't stay

meh. we got white out blizzarded today with 25mph sustained and 50mph gusts and -10 predicted for tonight. so i get the worst of both worlds. it's negative something right now, just got done plowing the driveway with the tractor. my face is frozen. drove 65 miles in the blizzard to look at a car that the dealer refused to negotiate on even though it had bald tires and was clearly not as nice as i was told on the phone, let the sales manager know what i thought of him and their establishment, and drove home without the car. there may have been a touch of profanity involved, but he deserved more than a touch.

Welcome to our hell last year, big snow at the beginning of January, kept snowing off and on through February, and nothing melted until March.....we were running out of places to put snow. Plus, thanks to that first snow, there were 5-8ft walls on either sides of roads that just filled back in with fresh snow when the wind kicked up. As dad said, it was actually worse than '78 here, because at least then it melted relatively soon after.

72" last year, not much fun. Just blowing and gusting here now, 2" yesterday but the wind has my driveway clear (since I bought a snowblower attachment) and huge drifts around the perimeter of the property.

Eastern Mass has had 85" in the last 23 days. It was thundersnowing at 5:30 this morning while I was cleaning off the truck. Sky would light up and then you'd get a big long rumble. The wife took the 4 wheel drive F350 to work and when she went by the airport she could only go 10MPH because she couldn't see. The wind was blowing so hard coming off the open fields of the airport that she couldn't keep the windshield clean.
