Saw this on NJ-287 heading north this morning.

It'll be OK, the three flags form a forcefield of 'Murica to keep the pickup on the trailer

well.. in it's favour.. I doubt that motorhome can generate enough acceleration or braking to move that pickup provided he at least used the "emergency brake" rather than leaving it in Park

At least he didn't need to crawl under to 'sort of' secure it.

If I were a LEO, I'd pull them over for improperly secured load. At least they look like they are properly rated straps and not HF 500 lb ratchet straps.

Is that the only tie down? That rig must be heading north for the Darwin Award convention so the man can pick up his award.

There was one just like it going thru the nerf bars up front.

I see stupid crap like this more often than I'd like to (which is never). They are usually headed towards the beach.

This might just be a case of selective memory, but I've noticed that the more beat up looking the tow vehicle is, the more likely the load is going to be secured. I'm guessing they just tow things more often. A notable exception are scrapers- hooptie trucks overloaded with miscellaneous debris, usually with an open trailer full of crap. I never drive behind them.

in either GA or NC (can't remember where he said) HP will pull you over for using open ended hooks as opposed to those with safety clips …

you might have used them for yrs, and you might be able to for yrs to come … but according to the owner of DiscoveryParts it can and will happen

I see people with nice mowers on landscaping trailers with nothing but the rails & gate keeping them in place. Still waiting to see one clip a curb.

That is two ratchet straps, with the buckles down near the trailer on each side, and the knot around the hitch looks to be just the extra strapping. It's not as bad as some I have seen.

For me the real issue is that the straps don't angle front or back enough to control fore and aft movement.

This. The guy who strapped it down obviously does not understand the principle of the triangle or load paths.
