Ever read Chuck Yeager's story? He was testing a plane that would go into a flat spin, he looked at the prints and thought he could get it out of this condition. Flying along it went into the flat spin, it twirled a coupla hundred times, he couldn't pull out so he ejected.

As he's free falling waiting for the chute to open the rocket propelled chair whizzed past him hitting the front of his helmet. The hot tip ignited the oxygen inside the helmet. Once landed he managed to get the helmet off (three man job to get it on) and walked toward the nearest road. A guy in a car stopped but as Yeager aproached the guy started puking on the ground. Yeager's face was burned up looking like hamburger.

The doctor at the hospital said you will be scarred for life with a painful recovery or we can leave no scars but you'll pray for death everyday.

He chose no scars. As new skin grew in, they peeled it off again and again. No scars but ooooooh baby that musta hurt.

Very cool plane, that guy's got build patience.

IIRC, the plane was a NF-104, a specially modified version of the normal Starfighter. The test was to take the plane to altitude, at the time of the spin he was at something like 104,000 ft., shut down the engine and use thrusters to maneuver. A nozzle stuck open on a thruster and used pretty much all the hydrazine on board. Well the way to get out of a flat spin is to throttle up the engine, and the way to start up the engine is to maneuver nose down and let air flow spin up the RPMs. Yeager used up the rest of his propellant and not getting out of the spin, he was screwed. He ejected at around 60,000 ft. and got hit by the rocket pack which knocked him out before he had deployed his chute. He came to almost too late. The whole episode is depicted also in "The Right Stuff."

Speaking as someone who has built and flown a few models, that guy is flying the hell out of that B-29. It must be really well built and have a phenomenal PWR.

at the show I watched they said each engine had 34hp and it could fly safely with two and that thing is HUGE
