He was only in about a dozen episodes, more or less.
I always liked his character on MASH, even though he was often in some of the more serious episodes.
RIP
Yeah, he wasn't in very many episodes, but ECM's right. They were mostly good ones. Including the finale. They couldn't have done it without him. RIP.
Dr Sidney Freedman said: Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice: pull down your pants, and slide on the ice.
When he showed up on the show, you could safely assume the episode would deal with something heavy, and he was a good cast member for those situations.
As an aside, I remember a few years ago when my boss said he had to go to Japan to deal with trying to sell a few units there to a new customer, and I asked if he'd be taking his golf clubs, because "how many times do you get to go to Japan with your golf clubs?". He didn't know what I was talking about. I mentioned MASH, the movie, and how the guys get to go golfing during a run to cut on some congressman's kid. Blank looks.
Apparently my boss, even after his time in the Air Force, along with just about every other aircraft engineer in earshot, hasn't seen the movie MASH. And I was the youngest guy in the area. Sad!
different era's I guess .... it's probably the move that ranks # 2 for me in amount of times I've watched it ....
and yeah Sidney was one of my favorite characters
