That's my SWIMBO's birthday. I know she's pretty great and all but I wasn't expecting a whole thread about it. Thank you all for your thoughts and well-wishes.

Last year my wife and I saw Lauren Daigle perform at Red Rock Amphitheater on September 21st and she covered the song.  It was soooo awesome!!!

15 years ago on September 21, my wife and I started dating. 8 years ago on September 19, we got married. Weird that we've now been married longer than we dated, because we dated "forever".

I heard an interview with EW&F, and the interviewer was really eager to hear the back story on the date and what was significant about it.

The short answer is that "September" rhymes with "remember", and they started with the 1st and just sang the line until they got to the date number that scanned the best with the tempo of the verse.

For some reason, I like this better than it having any meaning behind it. From a songwriting perspective, it is a beautiful reminder that art can exist for the sake of it being enjoyable without deeper meaning.
