I like the size and the great vintage pickup look.
I think I see just a little bit of Toyota pickup in the truck design. I looked at the truck and sedan and they look pretty good. Pretty obviously renderings so it will be interesting to see if they can transfer the look to physical form while meeting modern safety requirements. I think it will be hard to maintain the late 70's early 80's era thin door/thin pillar feel they have.
I do have to say as a designer, spot berkeleying on.

I think they are sharp looking. The last time I read there web page, you still can not purchase one. I have not seen one around here being tested like Rivians trucks. Groups of them appear like vacationers this past summer. All decaled up advertising the brand.
I've been occasionally eyeing these for what feels like a couple years or so. Ditto on the concern about potential vaporware. I'd love an affordable RWD EV coupe in the same size ballpark as my FR-S, and the retro-informed styling is a nice bonus.
To me it reads heavily of Alfa Giulia/GTV coupe, plus British Escort MK2, and perhaps a dash of Toyota Corolla Mango Coupe and/or Datsun Bluebird SSS coupe. Love the styling, let's see some progress on a prototype and I might pry open my wallet! 
They do great renders. I'm hoping they actually get some vehicles into production someday. I don't expect them to be cheap. Small volume stuff rarely is.
Not sure they're even in the "working prototype" stage at this point. And that's after a couple of years of showing their designs. The odds of this ever seeing the light of day seem vanishingly small to me.

They claim they started building a prototype in December and hope to have it driving by the middle of the year. They're currently courting "investors" via a mechanism which looks like a great way to extract money without incurring any actual obligations. There's no other information on the website other than empty bizspeak.
There are more rendered cars than last time I looked, you cannot fault the quality of their renders. Great dream fodder.

As interesting as the cars are- the core problem is that they will be very expensive to make.
If there was one or two similar models being built at former auto plants, maybe. But a whole lot of cars made in small numbers generally hasn't lead to making a lot of money.

I love the truck. Definitely pulls on nostalgic memories of my '86 Toyota 4x4 pickup.
I saw that truck in person at the Petersen 1-2 years ago. It looks even better in person and has great proportions!

If someone can come up with a good skateboard, we may see the return of the custom coachbuilder. While this is technically possible with an ICE, it's probably a whole lot harder because there are a lot of big bulky things involved in emissions controls that would either have to remain or be recertified at a fairly high expense. You can bypass all this with the EV. I'm not sure how crash regulations would work.
Make enough of those skateboards and maybe you could get the price down - but the coachbuilding part is always going to be expensive.
Alpha is hoping to be both the skateboard and the coachbuilder in this picture. I'm assuming they're going after the Singer part of the market. They might look like cars that we think are affordable, but that's only to attract a certain generation of buyers who like the youngtimers and go to Radwood and have found themselves with liquidity.

Crash will have to continue. No way around that- and it's as much IIHS as it is NTSHA.
But to make money on reasonably priced cars, it would have to be in the hundreds of thousands of sales. And the only real way to keep costs down is to keep complexity down- so minimum changes to the skateboard and body styles. So all of those different bodies and skateboard mean more complexity and more cost.
If they were smart, they would try to follow Tesla in the roll out of models- start with one that's in the $100-150k range, perfect that, and then move down market as cash comes in. Recall that even Tesla underestimated how actually hard it is to make cars.
It's not that the concept is bad, it's just that the cubic dollars it takes to be a decent start up is enormous. And that honestly does not include the certificaiton cost for crash.

I was going to reply that I didn't think they were targeting the mass market, that they were aiming for $100k+ with growth upwards due to bespoke options - then I saw that there are actual projected prices on the "reservation" page. I think they're all missing a digit.
I like how the truck uses a conventional frame and live axle. Should make it much easier to dump the battery when it dies and fab in a gas engine.
