I've been using the Mach 3 Turbo since it was introduced. Recently they redesigned them and (I think) started making them in Brazil or Venezuela. Since the redesign, I've had 3 out of 25 that felt dull after 1 shave. Considering the cost of these things, and the fact that I had no issues at all until this redesign, I've been looking for alternatives.
I've used a DE (old school) razor before, and I may go back to it, but I can't shave my head with it. Any suggestions?

Why can't you shave your head with a DE?
Here's my thoughts. go back to DE since I've found that nothing compares to a DE, either price or quality of the shave. If you can't shave your head with a DE, use any of the disposable blades. I shaved my head for a few years and the hair is so much softer that a blade would last for months if I didn't have to shave my face.
Now cue the complaints about 'another shaving thread!?"
Too bumpy! I tried one of those HeadBlades once and it was a bloodbath.
I might also try a store-brand twin blade. The hair on my head is definitely softer. Also there's half as much as there would be if I had a full head of hair... :)
Has anyone else tried Harrys.com? I heard an ad on WSJ This Morning and got a starter set for ten bucks. Three 5 blade cartridges, handle and some lather stuff. Refills are about 2 bucks a cartridge. Free shipping. It's different than using a Mach3, but I'm getting the hang of it. The Mach3 price of 4-5 bucks a cartridge was just getting to me, and they don't seem to keep their edge much anymore, as noted.

Do you use pre-shave oil? I use this stuff:
http://www.theartofshaving.com/Pre-Shave-Oil/00670535100034,default,pd.html?start=5&cgid=shaving-products-pre-shave-oil&navid=shaving-products-pre-shave-oil
Yes it is not cheap, but it is scented and has magical effects on my wife (which I very much enjoy). I put on the shaving oil, lather up with shaving soap, then shave with a DE (loaded with cheap blades) and I get zero cuts and baby butt smooth skin to frame my manly beard.

There's also a slightly cheaper version that I've been using for a while:

Plus, if you need to in a pinch, olive oil works well too, if you don't mind smelling like a salad all day.....

I have some Proraso preshave something or other that I use sometimes. But it's not oil... I'll keep that in mind.
Which blades do you guys use?

I like the Schick disposables, but I'm not sure what they're called. I've tried the high end Schick and Gilette blades but I like these better. I buy the 20 packs at BJs.
Sheik> Gilette
Also keep your razor blade cartridge down in a cup 1/4 filled (to keep the cartridge submerged) with Mineral Oil. The blades dull due to oxidation, the mineral oil will prevent this and your blades will last for at least 6 months.
(my razor of choice is the FX diamond, great sharp twin blade on a floating flex head that's small enough to get into tight spaces and a nice weight to the handle)
Honestly, I find any disposable single use shaver works virtually as well as anything else.
Also, literal soap used to be what shaving cream is now. I think an industry has popped up around something that isnt complicated, and they earn money off the hype.
I will say out of multi-blade razors, the gillette turbo 3 did seem the best and Ive tried them all.

Don't we have a shaving thread around this time every year?
Use the razors from http://dorcousa.com/. My wife uses these and likes them. They are 90% as good as Gilette and better than Shiek (IMO). This is what the Dollar Shave Club uses.

bout every 6 months. Then someone (usually me) comes in and says shaving is for women, then a debate ensues, then the non-shaving gorillas profess the last time they shaved, and I forget the record, but someone around here last shaved in like... 1974. I only know this because I've openly challenged people to a beard contest before.
insert "I haven't shaved since before I purchased my first pair of skinny jeans, flannel button down shirt, got glasses with a thick dark colored plastic frame and drinking limited edition IPAs exclusively." comment here

Tried both their 2 blade and 4 blade. My hair just clogs them up and they dull quickly. I keep returning to the Gillette 3 blade disposables.
Huh, haven't run into that but the wife uses the six blade with the flex head.

the last time I saw my upper lip was 1969 … I shaved for 6 mo in '86 …other than that a full beard since '69
waiting for someone to top that
I'm all the way back to an old double edge safety razor myself. And, I have a beard.
Anyhow, look on Amazon for one of the variety packs to experiment with. There are blades from all over the world, and from companies I never had heard of, as well blades from companies I do know, but never heard of the particular blade.
Try them and find the ones that work well for your face and your razor. Then buy a bunch. For me, the blades of choice are Trig, Treet and Big Ben. All cost me about $12 for a pack of 100 blades. Which is a whole lot cheaper than the multi-blade things, and those three shave me far closer.

We also use DorCo because they offer similar styles and features to Gillette and Schick, but with lower standard prices and frequent sales/promotions via their web site. I hold out for big sales (25-35% off plus free shipping) then buy cartridges in bulk for myself and my wife.
I've tried every style they sell and I prefer the five and six blade offerings (moar power!). Dorco only offer one hinge type, so all their cartridge styles work with all their handles.

I've used these for quite a while. Got no significant complaints.

I used one of those for years, Thinkkker. Back then, I was on a ship and had nothing else to do. Wrap leg around bulkhead, shave. These days, I don't have time for it.
Dollar Shave Club
I feel like giving this guy the business just because his commercials are so epic.
I've been using Wilkenson Sword Tech3's from Wallyworld. They are sold in 4-packs for about $4. Don't see any difference vs. the "name brand" disposables that cost much more.
